Find the topic or task you're interested in, and follow the links\nfor documentation.\n\nHere are ways you can manage your billing account:\n\n- [Create a new Cloud Billing account](/billing/docs/how-to/create-billing-account)\n- [Modify your Cloud Billing account settings](/billing/docs/how-to/modify-billing-account)\n- [Close a Cloud Billing account](/billing/docs/how-to/close-or-reopen-billing-account#close_a_billing_account)\n- [Reopen a closed Cloud Billing account](/billing/docs/how-to/close-or-reopen-billing-account#reopen_a_closed_billing_account)\n- [Cancel or delete a Cloud Billing account](/billing/docs/how-to/close-or-reopen-billing-account#delete_a_billing_account)\n\nAbout Cloud Billing accounts\n----------------------------\n\nCloud Billing accounts pay for usage costs in Google Cloud projects and\nGoogle Maps Platform projects. Cloud Billing accounts *don't*\npay for Google Workspace accounts. Google Workspace customers need a\nseparate Google Workspace billing account.\n\nYou need a Cloud Billing account to use Google Cloud or\nGoogle Maps Platform. To use Google Cloud resources in a project, billing\nmust be enabled on the project. Billing is enabled when the project is linked\nto an active Cloud Billing account.\n| **Caution:** Projects that aren't linked to an active Cloud Billing account can't use Google Cloud or Google Maps Platform services. This is true even if you only use [services that are free](/free/docs/gcp-free-tier).\n\nPricing information\n-------------------\n\nIf you're looking for information about Google API pricing, refer to the\ndocumentation for the API you are using.\n\n- For information about Google Cloud pricing and the Google Cloud free trial, see [Google Cloud Pricing](https://cloud.google.com/pricing/).\n- For Google Maps Platform pricing, see [Google Maps Platform Pricing](/maps-platform/pricing) or see [Google Maps Platform Billing](https://developers.google.com/maps/billing/gmp-billing).\n\nCreate a new Cloud Billing account\n----------------------------------\n\nThere are\n[two types of Cloud Billing accounts](/billing/docs/concepts#billing_account_types):\n\nAbout authorization requests\n----------------------------\n\nWhen you create a new, self-serve Cloud Billing account, you might\nnotice a $0.00 transaction from Google on your bank or credit card statement.\nThese are authorization requests only, not actual charges.\n\n- Learn more [about authorization requests](/billing/docs/how-to/create-billing-account#bank-auth).\n\n- For information about verifying bank accounts, see\n [Verify your bank account](/billing/docs/how-to/verify-bank).\n\n- For information about adding backup methods of payment, see\n [Add, remove, or update a payment method](/billing/docs/how-to/payment-methods).\n\nVerify your Google payments contact email address\n-------------------------------------------------\n\nTo ensure you receive Cloud Billing-related and\npayments-related notifications, we might\nask you to verify your email address on your Google payments profile.\n\n- Learn more about [how to verify your email address](/billing/docs/how-to/create-billing-account#verify-email-address).\n\nModify your Cloud Billing account settings\n------------------------------------------\n\nAfter you create a Cloud Billing account and its associated\nGoogle payments profile, you can\n[change or update many account settings](/billing/docs/how-to/modify-billing-account).\n\nThis section lists a few of the settings you can update. For a more complete\nlist, see\n[Modify your Cloud Billing account](/billing/docs/how-to/modify-billing-account).\n\nClose a Cloud Billing account\n-----------------------------\n\nYou can close an active Cloud Billing account to stop all billable\nservices in any\n[projects linked to the account](/billing/docs/how-to/view-linked),\nsuch as running VM instances or storage buckets. If your projects aren't\nlinked to an active, valid Cloud Billing account, you can't use the\nproducts and services enabled in your projects. This is true\neven if your projects only use Google Cloud or\nGoogle Maps Platform\n[services that are free](/free/docs/gcp-free-tier).\n\n- Learn how to [close a Cloud Billing account](/billing/docs/how-to/close-or-reopen-billing-account#close_a_billing_account).\n\n**Tip**: Rather than closing your account, you can stop new charges from\naccruing in a Cloud Billing account using one of the following\noptions:\n\n- [Disable billing](/billing/docs/how-to/modify-project#disable_billing_for_a_project) on each [project linked to the Cloud Billing account](/billing/docs/how-to/view-linked)\n- [Link your projects to a different, active Cloud Billing account](/billing/docs/how-to/modify-project#change_the_billing_account_for_a_project).\n\nReopen a closed Cloud Billing account\n-------------------------------------\n\nIf your Cloud Billing account is closed or inactive, you can reopen\nthe account.\n\nBefore a Cloud Billing account can be reactivated, you must resolve\nany Google payments-related issues or suspensions. Follow the steps in the\n[resolving declined payments](/billing/docs/how-to/resolve-issues#resolving_declined_payments)\ntroubleshooter for assistance.\n\n- Learn how to [reopen a closed Cloud Billing account](/billing/docs/how-to/close-or-reopen-billing-account#reopen_a_closed_billing_account).\n\nDelete a Cloud Billing account\n------------------------------\n\n**Cloud Billing accounts can't be deleted.** Even if you\n[close your Cloud Billing account](#close_a_billing_account),\nthe Cloud Billing account information is retained for reporting and\nauditing purposes.\n\nIf you want to prevent a Cloud Billing account from accruing charges,\nyou can\n[close the Cloud Billing account](#close_a_billing_account),\nor\n[disable billing](/billing/docs/how-to/modify-project#disable_billing_for_a_project)\non the\n[associated projects](/billing/docs/how-to/view-linked).\n\nIf you want to change the form of payment associated with your\nCloud Billing account, you can\n[manage your payment methods](https://support.google.com/paymentscenter/topic/9023854)\nin the Google payments center.\n\nRelated topics\n--------------\n\n- [View projects linked to a Cloud Billing account](/billing/docs/how-to/view-linked)\n- [Enable, disable, or change billing for a project](/billing/docs/how-to/modify-project)\n- [Add, remove, or update a payment method](/billing/docs/how-to/payment-methods)\n- [Resolve billing issues](/billing/docs/how-to/resolve-issues)\n- [View your cost and payment history](/billing/docs/how-to/view-history)\n- [View your billing reports and cost trends](/billing/docs/how-to/reports)\n\nTry it for yourself\n-------------------\n\n\nIf you're new to Google Cloud, create an account to evaluate how our\nproducts perform in real-world scenarios.
