Hi everyone,

I am a student applying for the GitHub Student Developer Pack. My school does not provide academic email addresses to students.

I have tried applying multiple times, but I am not getting the camera/selfie verification step during the application process. My applications are getting rejected because of missing camera verification.

I have valid school documents and can provide any additional proof if needed.

Please help me complete the verification process.

The camera verification step is required when your school doesn't provide academic emails . If you're not seeing it at all, the system is likely blocking you before that step.

Here is what is happening

The camera step only appears when GitHub cannot verify your school through their database or email domain . If your school is not recognized or your location is off, the application may fail earlier without ever showing the camera option .

Try these steps in order

Step 1: Update your billing info first

Go to Settings → Billing and licensing → Payment information. Add your full name exactly as it appears on your student ID (no payment method needed) . Then log out and log back in.

Step 2: Enable two-factor authentication (2FA)

GitHub requires 2FA before approving Student Pack applications . Go to Settings → Password and authentication and set it up.

Step 3: Apply using a different device or browser

Try using Chrome or Firefox on a laptop or desktop. Some users have success on mobile Opera browser . Safari often blocks location sharing .

Step 4: Type your school name manually

In the school field, if your school doesn't appear in the dropdown, type it manually instead of selecting an option. This sometimes triggers the upload/camera step to appear .

If you still don't see the camera option

Contact GitHub Support directly using this link: https://support.github.com/contact . Select "Education" and explain:

"My school does not provide academic emails. I am trying to apply for the Student Developer Pack but the camera verification step never appears during the application process. Please help me complete the verification."

Bottom line

The camera step is mandatory when you don't have a school email . Make sure your billing info is complete, 2FA is enabled, and try a different browser first. If it still won't appear, support is your only option.
