Keynote speaker confirmed

Good news everyone! I've been in touch with Raymond Hettinger[1] and he's agreed to come down for the conference as our keynote speaker. Raymond is a core contributor to Python, author of tons of awesome recipes on Active State recipes, author of the itertools module and lots of other niceties. We need to discuss details like payment etc. and one person in Pune needs to make sure of things like accomodation and transport. I'll open a private mail thread with Sree and the others involved in the financial stuff to discuss those aspects. T-shirts and goodies

Have we got any volunteers for T-shirts and other goodies, swags etc for the conference ? Can anyone who can run things on the ground raise his/her hand ? Folks, we are reaching July and things need to get ramped up otherwise we might be playing a late game on all fronts and end up with half cooked measures. Opening up registrations

Hi, We started discussion on Conference registrations around this time last year. We opened up for early-bird registrations on July 7 2010. (http://in.pycon.org/2010/blog/6-registrations-are-open!) This time, we need to get the discussion on registrations going just as well. Since we already have a history and experience with with integrating with doattend, I suggest going the same way this year as well. Thoughts ? -- --Anand

"Sponsors" on Menu

I just noticed we had a nice "Sponsor" menu item last year which gave information on all tiers. This time our menu items are woefully lacking in general information on conference. http://in.pycon.org/2010/sponsors I think adding the latest information from the wiki would help any new sponsors. Talks

We have currently 23 talks on the site (excluding the test ones). I personally feel this is not quantum enough for a good selection. Since we have only 1 week to go as of now, I suggest to move this for another week and maximize the marketing efforts. Another concern for me is that this time we are proposing for 3 days but so far I don't think we have got any proposal for tutorial tracks at all. As of now, with no tutorial track proposals, it doesn't look like there is enough content for 3 days. Thoughts ? -- --Anand

Discussions on 21st June

This is to document the discussions as held the night of 21st June between the Pune folks working actively on #inpycon. Unfortunately I had to go to the airport almost immdtly afterwards so its been some time and I am using my rather poor memory. Others in the discussion feel free to append or amend as appropriate. We started off with the set of specific items Noufal had referred to in his mail : 1. To get aggressive with sponsors This is definitely important at the moment, and it was decided to a) Aggressively seek sponsors the week of 26th (Lead: Dhananjay. Navin and others supporting with specific leads into pune companies). I also agreed to touch base with volunteers from other cities to assess and coordinate sponsorship promotion in the other cities as well. (This should be happening the coming week) 2. To advertise the CFP and chase/get python programmers in India to come present high quality stuff. Ramki to get in touch with a number of other folks to specially promote this (eg. Bhaskaracharya pratishthan is one I recollect). Probably more was discussed, but I don't recollect it quite well. 3. Create a buzz (twitter, facebook etc.) Navin to help it get kickstarted. It was also discussed that perhaps one of the upcoming techweekend sessions could be dedicated to python to further increase the local buzz and we could support those sessions. Harshad Oak also would be helping with the local offline media interfacing, though we were a little unclear how to market it to that segment. BG would also be supporting in terms of interacting with some other blogs as well. There was also a discussion of distributing python content dvds based on some of the earlier gnunify sessions within the local community through events such as techweekend and other local fora. 4. Arrange wifi (I sent an email about this earlier) Harshad Gune (he's been teaching at Symbiosis for the last 14 years so is reasonably clued into that environment). He suggested that there is a good availability of 5 Mbps from aircel at the venue. There was a question whether one needs a larger number of access points and whether we would need higher bandwidth given the large number of people. Unresolved. BG to continue with the same in coordination with Harshad Gune for the Wifi infrastructure 5. Design and decide on the publicity materials (brochures etc.) I wish I remember more about what exactly transpired here - someone else from the discussion kindly chip in. We did discuss two more points. 6. Venue and Logistics Planning : While not immediately important in terms of imminent action, it was important to start planning and listing all the tasks that we would need to track. We also need to start creating the local volunteer base for the conference. We could start the same with eliciting volunteers (from punepycon and other sources). Navin / Harshad G could get started off along these lines. 7. Tutorial Track : I mentioned that we have about 6 volunteers now (3 being folks I have pinged and have responded positively, 1 being self, 1 being Noufal, and 1 being someone BG would help appoint) and that we would need a few more if we have to structure a full set of sessions over three days. We need to get the overall structure decided so that people can start creating the appropriate content. This is something that I shall also continue to focus on in addition to sponsorships. Great. On a separate note I have one verbally confirmed sponsorship and hope to receive the payment as early as day after tom. We also had a long discussion day before. Since I had to begin travel immdtly after I hope to update this list on sat. A variety of issues were discussed including sponsorship. Taking stock of the situation

I'll be frank and say that I'm worried. We have around 2.5 months left for September. We don't have any local sponsors yet. The CFP was announced and we have just a few submissions. There's no buzz on blogs, twitter etc. which keeps the thing going. I don't know if there's soemthing on FB/LinkedIN. I also don't know what the situation is on the rest of the things like wifi and A/V. I also don't know if there's on the ground activity that's not being advertised on the list. However, the overall situation is kind of bleak. I don't want to get into a situation where we make some commitments like keynote speaker etc. and then cancel later. In short, a stand needs to be taken and some things to be made clear. What's the situation right now?
