[RFC] Proposal for PyCon APAC 2025 in India

Hi everyone, I am writing to let you all know that we are considering submitting a proposal for PyCon APAC 2025 [1]. It would be a great opportunity to have more pan Asia folks join the conference. Time is of essence right now as the proposal deadline [2] is right around the corner. Keeping that in mind, we started writing a proposal [3] and gathering a team who would volunteer to bootstrap the proposal. If anyone has any comments or questions or concerns about the proposal [3], please let us know in the thread or chime in to the linked draft document [3] by **the end of day Monday, September 30**. We will respond to the comments as they start coming in. Note: The document is very much in progress and we plan to finalize the proposal by the end of day Sunday, September 29th to submit the proposal in time for the October 1st deadline. Making IN-Pycon more environmentally friendly

Hi, This is regd plastic glasses, and single use cup wastage in the conference. At Pycon today I saw that in morning breakfast, disposable plastic glasses were used for serving juice and thermocol bowl for the fruits served in lunch as well as single use cups alongside water dispensers all of which added up to quite lot of waste. I had attended India FOSS - https://fossunited.org/indiafoss/2024 - in the same venue 2 weeks back and saw that it was conducted in a quite environmentally friendly way by not using any plastic items as well as not having much single usage cups. They had kept reusable steel cups for hot beverages thereby reducing the waste heavily. India Foss had also sent communication such as below which prepared the participants: """At FOSS United, we are committed to making IndiaFOSS 2024 as low waste as possible. We kindly encourage you to bring your own water bottles and handkerchiefs, as we’ll be reducing the use of single-use tissues. Every small step towards sustainability makes a difference!""" ( I see that there was some pre work done there as part of 2023 event itself https://forum.fossunited.org/t/making-foss-united-events-low-waste/2532 ) Guess it's late for this edition of pycon but if we can keep environmentally friendly as one of pycon event considerations, it would be great. Marking Selected Proposals on CFP / Junction

Hello, everyone, First of all, thanks, and congratulations for pulling off yet another great conference! I'm looking at the CFPs from a few previous editions, and I noticed that our CFP pages from 2015 <https://in.pycon.org/cfp/pycon-india-2015/proposals/> through 2019 <https://in.pycon.org/cfp/2019/proposals/>, and 2023 <https://in.pycon.org/cfp/pycon-india-2023/proposals/> have a convenient section on "Selected Proposals". If it's not too much trouble, would it be possible to add this section where it is missing, particularly in 2024? I'm happy to spend time on this myself, if needed, as long as someone can point me to the right resources. Thanks again, -- JD

All Set for PyCon India 2024

Hi everyone, We had our last volunteer call online yesterday before PyCon India 2024 starts tomorrow. I'd love to share our progress so far and what you can expect from the conference, along with a few notes. As always, everything is available in our planning doc[1]. We have 4 keynote speakers, 6 workshop speakers, and 33 talks selected via the CFP process. The review was conducted internally in the first round, and with the help of a few external reviewers, a final selection was made. We reached out to the final list in order until all talk slots were filled, ensuring a well-balanced representation across all domains. We have an amazing 11 first-time speakers this year, and a very diverse group of presenters delivering brilliant topics. Additionally, we have 3 panels planned across 2 days. You can find all these details on the schedule page[2] on our website. We also have 6 confirmed poster presentations, along with several BoFs and Open Spaces to look forward to. We've closed all sponsorships as well. So, we've 3 platinum, 5 gold, 6 silver and 2 associate sponsors. We also have a lanyard sponsor this time. All the sponsors have been announced so feel free to check them out. Kudos to the sponsorship team for pulling this off. The DevSprint[3] is confirmed to take place at the Google Office. Thanks to Google for developers for hosting it. All designs for printing, standees, banners, T-shirts, and goodies have been sent. Kudos to the design working group for completing everything, and the logistics working group is following up on their status. We will also have community booths, and we’ve sent out a form[4] for anyone interested in representing their amazing community. We’d be delighted to have you and support you throughout. We've had some ticket cancellations, so we were able to reopen a few more tickets. While we strongly believe in the philosophy of "Everyone pays," we understand that sometimes people are in need. Thanks to some of our sponsors, we were able to offer scholarships to around 20+ individuals after reviewing their applications. Some tough decisions were made, and some program adjustments were made last week. A few plans didn’t work out, but we've certainly gained valuable experience as volunteers. The CoC[5] committee has been formed, and about 8 people attended a class on the Code of Conduct, followed by a training session. The Reporting Guide[6] is available in detail, and CoC reports will be investigated by the committee as they come in. We had an offline volunteer meet last week in Koramangala, where we discussed final points and distributed responsibilities for the event days. A follow-up meeting is planned for tomorrow before the conference starts. Hi Pradeep, I hope you know PyCon India is fully managed by volunteers and each volunteer handles multiple tasks. As the event comes closer we have to pause all ticket sales and cancellation to manage other logistics like T-shirt orders, badge printing etc. We want to give each attendee the best experience possible. Every year we see some amount of dropouts, but that is very natural for any event due to the people's various commitments in life. While it's easy to think from an attendee perspective about what's wrong in extending the transfer date, being in the shoes of the organiser I can definitely say that it is not easy to manage logistics of a huge Conference like PyCon India.
