The indentation "issue" is a *non* issue, and even in this newsgroup where most of the complaints from newcomers probably show up, there has been remarkably little said against it. Personally, I read about the indentation "issue" before I even saw Python, thought "neat!", and decided to give it a chance. I haven't looked back and have *never* had a moment's complaint about indentation in Python. All this without even mentioning the serious *advantages* of Python's style of indentation. I've hacked together a replacement for RRDp, using popen() and "rrdtool -", but it sounds like you've already done that. I found a wrapper at http://www.untz.net/rrdmodule.html but I have not tried it. Case

COM Question: VB cDate equivalent i Pythonwin

Hi, I am working with ActiveX control from Bloomberg. This control has cDate, which is an optional argument. I attempted to use both mxDateTime and pywintypes.Time(time.time()), the first give me back wrong type msg and later actually crashes pythonwin with usual memory+unintelligible win error msg. I included Gen_py output as well as VB code and my attempt with Pythonwin. How can I access a variable outside a class definition?

Hi, How can I access a variable defined in one class outside this class ? For example I have two classes like below ############################# class Complex: def __init__(self, realpart1,imagpart1,realpart2,imagpart2): self.r1 = realpart1 self.i1 = imagpart1 self.r2 = realpart2 self.i2 = imagpart2 def Add(self,r1,i1,r2,i2): self.sum=self.i1+self.i2 ImSum=self.sum return ImSum ########################### ########################### class Outside def MyFunction(self,ImSum) ... ... ######################## Is it possible to access,in the Outside class, a value of the ImSum that was return by Add function in that Complex class? It was mostly an academic question, since whether urlopen "files" should be iterable or not is (IMO) orthogonal to whether you can download a partial file or not. One is a policy question and the other is a mechanism question. It's going to be pretty hard to determine whether it "cheaper" to download the whole thing and discard unwanted portions or to establish multiple conenctions and send multiple requests. -- Grant Edwards grante Yow! Yes, that sounds like a reasonable practical solution (assuming 2.2, where StringTypes exists - otherwise I can just use (StringType, UnicodeType)). But Skip's idea of trying the call and catching the exception is probably even better. Paul.

Good point. I was worried about just catching all errors, and I wasn't sure what specific exception I could catch. But a bit of checking shows that I get a TypeError, which makes perfect sense. It might be e.g. a cgi-script spewing lines of information. I wouldn't want to download "all" of these before iterating over them... I'm sure xreadlines would work nicely, but then again, why shouldn't I be able to just iterate over the file?
