obj2 = ojb1 = range(len(somelist))

I wanted to create 2 distinct lists that were derived from range function. rather that doing obj1 = range(len(somelist)) obj2 = range(len(somelist)) I wanted to do obj2 = ojb1 = range(len(somelist)) Yet, both names point to the same object -- they're not two objects. That is your opinion. Frankly, I have zero problems with IE, whereas I was always crashing with NS -- a browser which doesn't bother to support CSS the way it ought. Perhaps you should take time to reevaluate your ideas of sensibility, and what my website is compliant with. But that is a matter that has nothing to do with this thread. ---------- Keith J. However, unbeknowst to me, the author of the class was *also* called Tim, and Klass actually inherits from a TimKlass. Suddenly you may find "private" attributes changing for no apparent reason. Yes, I know - read the source. However, the whole point of a public API is that it should not matter how things are composed. Perhaps a better example: I inherit from Klass to create TimKlass, having ensured that there is no class in the inheritance tree called TimKlass. I get a new version of the library. Now Klass *does* inherit from TimKlass, and I happen to be using the same private attribute names that TimKlass does. My code breaks *badly* for no apparent reason - and hunting down the problem would be an absolute nightmare. Tim Delaney

You will soon notice (if you haven't already) that your list admin passwords on mail.python.org are broken. This happened due to an upgrade of the version of Python running on that system. The old list passwords can't be recovered, so they have to be reset. List administrators can contact me to get this done. If you know the old password, send it to me and I'll reset the list to it. Otherwise, let me know and I'll generate a new password for you. Sorry for the inconvenience, -Barry
