help with warning formatting

I'm trying to get the hang of warnings. % cat t.py import warnings warnings.warn('foo') % python t.py t.py:2: UserWarning: foo warnings.warn('foo') Is there a way to just issue the warning message itself, or to at least suppress printing the line where the warning occurred (" warnings.warn('foo')" in the example)? See, I want to warn the user of my application that they're doing something risky or improper, so I just want to emit the 'foo', subject to the usual determination of whether the warning needs to be printed at all. For my purposes, the user doesn't need to know where the warning occurred, and they certainly don't need to see pieces of the call stack. The way it works now, it seems to be intended to warn the application programmer that they're doing something risky in the code (?). Thanks in advance for any advice.

Win32 drive mapping... aka "net use"

Is there an API using Win32 extensions to map a drive share? I have not found one yet and have tried searching "Win32 map drive". I am looking for the equivalent of: net use <share path> If not, is there an alternative other than making a call to system("net use <path>"). Using PIL with py2exe

Does anyone know how to embed PIL into a py2exe program. As far as I can tell PIL is not finding its plugins for Image I/O, they are imported dynamically as required. So I cant load or save pictures I tried making a copy of the plugin files to the application directory, but I've had no luck in making the code see the files I'd be grateful for any suggestion. Problem using win32com

Hi, A month ago, I decided to move from Delphi to Python/wxPython for a good deal of my development work, and for the past few projects (which included a full re-write of our point-of-sale system) I've had no problems and been very pleased with the move. We're Sage (accounting software) developers and frequently link into Line 50 using a Sage supplied COM server. In Delphi, the code to create the client and a workspace (which is required later) is as follows: SDO := CreateOLEObject('SDOEngine.10'); WS := SDO.Workspaces.Add('abc'); So naturally, I'd expect the following Python code to work: import win32com.client SDO = win32com.client.Dispatch("SDOEngine.10") WS = SDO.Workspaces.Add("abc") But at the last stage, I get an error: Traceback (most recent call last): File "<pyshell#4>", line 1, in -toplevel- ws=sdo.Workspaces.Add("ss") File "C:\PYTHON23\lib\site-packages\win32com\client\dynamic.py", line 154, in __call__ return self._get_good_object_(self._oleobj_.Invoke(*allArgs),self._olerepr_.defaultDispatchName,None) com_error: (-2147352573, 'Member not found.', None, None) So I used MakePy to generate the relevant Python interface code, and tried the following: SDO=win32com.client.gencache.EnsureModule("{ACE2C5EC-2EC0-4AEB-8B0D-27A5A1ED6421}",0,10,0) WS=SDO.Workspaces.Add("abc") But now I get: Traceback (most recent call last): File "<interactive input>", line 1, in ? Larry Wall and Cults (Lazyness, Impatience and Hubris) 200012 Dear readers, Did you know that throughout history there's this thing called cult? It is a very interesting phenomenon. I don't have time to expound and teach, but will try to brief you. These cults, are often lead by a single person. They form a group as small as a dozen to multinational octopuses (such as Scientology). Their creed varies from the mild in appearance (Dianetics) to appalling (flat earth, extraordinary life-after-death, impinging apocalypse scenarios, militant anti-government conspiracy, diabolism with human sacrifices ...). Don't think that i'm citing from some arcane books buried in libraries. These are real, and not difficult to find in real life. Some of these cult leaders, are so able to totally wash their member's brain, as to have them autonomously swear and volunteer to die for the cause of the cult. Occasionally, you'll even see mass suicide. You know, the world is not made completely of rubes. Somebody somewhere, will observe this phenomenon and study or report it as is. Big brother organizations, such as the FBI, is keen on these and very interested in benefiting from social psychology themselves. They are recorded in books too. Ever wonder why the library houses so many cold volumes of paper? This is one contributing reason. You might be interested to verify that sometimes. These brain-washing phenomenon, are not limited to fanatical life-and-death or otherwise dire beliefs. You see it work in all manners of human thought in the general sense. From culture formation to fashion to commercialism. Surely you have heard of Adolf Hitler and his atrocities of genocide? I must alert you, that a single person couldn't commit such a crime. You see, even if you are superman, you can only kill few at a time. You see, it is the people, people like you and me, who commit the killings willingly, by Hitler's teaching. You may say: "no, i won't ever do such stupid thing", well because you are very ignorant about social psychology. It is precisely innocent people like you and (not) me, who were lead by the radical leaders of supreme brain-washing abilities. The innocent mob were fervent in their leader's vision and beliefs to commit anything. You know the concept of war, right? We have two massive body of people committed to cut off other people's head or otherwise stick a knife in their bodies or bomb off an arm or leg. How did that happen? Well, it starts with patriotism for people like you and (not) me. Now, back to topic. In the computing world, there're also bad seeds with colorful creed taking innocent mobs forming cults. The three principal virtues of a programmer are Laziness, Impatience, and Hubris. Yes? How can we prevent heinous cults then? Stop bending truths. Education and rationalism. I'm starting my own cult to exterminate morons on this earth. Advice to a Junior in High School?

Hello, everyone. I would appreciate any advice that someone could give me on my future career path. Here is my situation: I am a bright Junior in a very well-respected private high school, taking almost all AP and accelerated classes. I am HIGHLY interested in technology, more specifically the field of Computer Science and software engineering. I have heard a whole lot about the fact that the market for software engineers nowadays is *HORRIBLE*, and that I should double major or perhaps go into a field of study in which I'm not very interested. I would be devastated were I to find the need to leave computer science. I love the subject, and I've wanted to be a computer scientist ever since I was 12 years old. Does anyone have any advice for me and my future? What should I study in college? Will the market for jobs get better? Do I have any hope at all of finding a decent-paying job in compsci? What languages do you suggest that I study (I'm already studying Python)? thank you very much for your help! --shn
