The "hangers-on" have too much invested in the MS quagmire to consider anything else. It's a political thing, and yes yet another example of Plato's "Allegory of the Cave." For example, a major financial institution offers their active trader application on Windows only, citing "security" considerations. Stamping the MS Office Suite and VBA a standard is reminiscent of HR department policy - of course you know what floats to the top in corporate (as well as government) ranks. QOTW? Hello Andrea, I have played around for a few seconds and have a few suggestions. The code is a little baffling it appears that there is no way to do that on windows. I have looked into Internet Explorer and have found that there is an option in Internet Explorer that controls this. In Internet Explorer ( some things may have changed or be slightly diffrent in your version ): open I.E. -> goto top toolbar and click: Tools->Internet Options->Browsing->Reuse windows for launching shortcuts. Uncheck that option and you should be able to just os.startfile or webrowser and have it open a new window. Have not looked into it but you can probably do this easily with win32api . Search MSDN and then translate that into win32api for Python. hth, M.E.Farmer

i have the following code: Ui.py: import Tkinter as Tk import UiMainScreen UiMainScreen.py: class UiMainScreen( Tk.Frame ): .... and i get the following error: File "UiMainScreen.py", line 1, in ? class UiMainScreen(Tk.Frame): NameError: name 'Tk' is not defined isn't Tk supposed to be imported globaly? And If i import Tkinter again inside every other file, will it be really imported several times and be independent in each file or the python interpreter just use the subsequent imports to know where to propagate stuff? What's the fastest and most elegant equivalent of zip() in Numeric/Numarray between two equally sized 1D arrays ? That is, how to combine two (N,)-shaped arrays to one (N,2) (or (2,N)) shaped ? I expect the fastest and the most elegant idiom to be identical, as it is usually the case in this excellent library, but if not, both would be useful to know. Thanks, George
