using subprocess.Popen does not suppress terminal window on Windows

I am calling a ruby program from a python gui and using subprocess.Popen in Windows XP using python 2.6. Unfortunately, whenever the ruby program is called a blank command window appears on screen, annoying my users. Is there a way to suppress this behaviour? Below is a minimal program that demonstrates the problem. The problem does not manifest if the python program is launched via the command line. decoding a byte array that is unicode escaped?

I have a byte stream read over the internet: responseByteStream = urllib.request.urlopen( httpRequest ); responseByteArray = responseByteStream.read(); The characters are encoded with unicode escape sequences, for example a copyright symbol appears in the stream as the bytes: 5C 75 30 30 61 39 which translates to: \u00a9 which is unicode for the copyright symbol. I am simply trying to display this copyright symbol on a webpage, so how do I encode the byte array to utf-8 given that it is 'escape encoded' in the above way? I tried: responseByteArray.decode('utf-8') and responseByteArray.decode('unicode_escape') and str(responseByteArray). I am using Python 3.1.

jython lacks working xml processing modules?

I'm trying to parse an xml file with jython (not through java parsers like xerces). I tried minidom in jython 2.1 and 2.2a but all failed. What can I do? The last resort would be using java parsers. Then how can I use them like python xml parsers? It seems like javadom and javasax has something to do, but I don't know how. Jane

Keeping the Console Open with IDLE

I'm using IDLE for editing, but execute programs directly. If there are execution or "compile" errors, the console closes before I can see what it contains. Mouse LED Control in Python

I found this link that describes the byte arrays to control the IM/Email Leds on my Logitech MX610 mouse: http://www.kdedevelopers.org/node/2029 The link to the tarball is dead so I can't look at that. Is there anyway to do what the link says in Python? If you follow the link above, it talks about 'sending the byte array to 0x10 (16)'. I'm not sure if that is possible in python. Can anyone help or point me in the right direction? I'd also be willing to have this be done in another language and just call different programs from a python program when I need something specific done (IM light on, for example). Text from the link if you can't be bothered to follow it: "I've figured out the IM led now. As before, you send 6 bytes to report ID 0x10 (16), followed by the "confirm" message. Hi, Did anyone managed to change the code font family/size in Pydev (Python Editor Plugin for Eclipse) ? I found how to change the color mapping (Windows/Preference/Pydev) but did not found the font setting. Cheers, SB

Is there *any* real documentation to PyWin32?

I understand that the Win32 has been said to be itself poorly documented, so perhaps that the documentation that comes with the modules is of similar quality is no coincidence. Maybe I'm still too young in my programming to grasp the good of that documentation, but for myself, it tells me next to nothing. Could anyone point me to anything which may exist that does a better job of explaining the extensions' use? I tried to take a look @ Microsoft's documentation, but it was confusing.
