How do you compare Python to Lisp? What specific advantages do you think that one has over the other? Note I'm not a Python person and I have no axes to grind here. This is just a question for my general education. Mark

How to add months to a date (datetime object)?

I have a date in the form of a datetime object and I want to add (for example) three months to it. At the moment I can't see any very obvious way of doing this. I need something like:- myDate = datetime.date.today() inc = datetime.timedelta(months=3) myDate += inc but, of course, timedelta doesn't know about months. I had a look at the calendar object but that didn't seem to help much. -- Chris Green

I am pleased to announce the first stable release of obfuscate, version 0.2.2. http://pypi.python.org/pypi/obfuscate/ obfuscate is a pure-Python module providing classical encryption algorithms suitable for obfuscating and unobfuscating text. This is a maintenance release of back-end and API changes but no new ciphers. This should be considered the first stable API for obfuscate. obfuscate includes the following ciphers: - rot13, rot5, rot18, rot47 - atbash - Caesar cipher - Keyword - Affine - Playfair, Playfair6, Playfair16 - frob (xor) - Vigenere - RailFence - plus others. DISCLAIMER: obfuscate is not cryptographically strong, and should not be used where high security is required. obfuscate is released under the MIT licence. Requires Python 2.5 or 2.6. -- Steven

Hello, do you know of any way to copy locked / opened files under win xp? I know there is something like "Volume Shadow Copy" but I don't know how to use it. Maybe someone already has a python solution? Many thanks Daniel

If windows has been running a long time (a few days or a week may be long ;-) it may get fragmented in some smallish memory arena reserved for special things (I forgot what versions, but I wouldn't be surprised if something still had s specialized limit). Does the program involve dynamic generation of desktop icons by any chance? Especially a lot of large true-color ones? I have some faint inkling of some correlation of that and memory problems with still huge amounts of heap memory available. Has the OP rebooted and just run the offending program alone? BTW, if the OP wants to find out how much memory is on the windows system, the amount of memory probably shows in the "about" window of the task manager (the NT task manager will give you a scrolling real-time graph of different kinds of memory usage as well). Also if the OP has windows word editor (probably winword.exe will start it from the console command line), the "about" dialog may have a "system info ..." button that will show memory and a lot more. What that button runs is C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSInfo\MSINFO32.exe on my system. Since it's accessible from Word, I wouldn't think it would be too unsafe to run, but I guess the OP might not want to start diagnostic things on arbitrary devices etc., if that's accessible from his session. i try to host an activex control in my program . the control has a picture property which only accepts "IPictureDisp" interfaces. does anybody know how to create IPictureDisp objects? thanks.
