here's a interesting toy list processing problem. I have a list of lists, where each sublist is labelled by a number. I need to collect together the contents of all sublists sharing the same label. There are at least 2 options: 1. Add path that contains the shared library to the LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable. In a bash shell this can be accomplished by: export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/path/to/python_shared_lib: $LD_LIBRARY_PATH 2. Add path to dynamic linker configuration file. This typically is in '/etc/ld.so.conf'. See man page for ld for more information. Note that I assumed that you are on a Unix/Linux machine. Regards, Marco

Weirdness with python and stdin redirection under Win32

I am getting an error reading stdin only when I invoke a python script by typing "bar | foo.py" or "foo.py < bar", but not when typing "bar | python foo.py" or "python foo.py < bar". The error arises ecause when input is redirected, stdin has fileno = -1 if the script is invoked as "foo.py", but correctly has fileno = 0 if it is invoked as "python foo.py" Consider the following script, which I want to use as a prototype for a simple stdin --> stdout filter: # foo.py import sys print "fileno = ", sys.stdin.fileno() lines = sys.stdin.xreadlines() for line in lines: sys.stdout.write(line) On win32 (Win2k pro, SP3), using ActiveState ActivePython 2.2.1 build 222, I can execute foo.py either by typing "foo.py" or "python foo.py" on the command line (the relevant registry key for opening .py files has command 'C:\Python22\python.exe "%1" %*'). If I type "echo bar | foo.py", I get C:\>echo bar | foo.py The process tried to write to a nonexistent pipe. fileno = -1 Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:\foo.py", line 7, in ? lines = sys.stdin.readlines() IOError: [Errno 9] Bad file descriptor whereas if I type "echo bar | python foo.py", I get C:\>echo bar | python foo.py fileno = 0 bar Other tests yield: C:\>foo.py < foo.py fileno = -1 Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:\Documents and Settings\Jonathan\My Documents\Programming\Omap VU\Fast CameraDriver\BF_LabView\Leo\foo.py", line 7, in ? for line in lines: IOError: [Errno 9] Bad file descriptor C:\>python foo.py < foo.py fileno = 0 # foo.py import sys print "fileno = ", sys.stdin.fileno() lines = sys.stdin.xreadlines() for line in lines: sys.stdout.write(line) If I just type "foo.py" or "python foo.py" on the command line, I get "fileno = 0" in both cases and the script works identically in both cases. Tcl wasn't installed properly

I'm a frequent user of matplotlib on my Windows XP machine. I recently attempted to install a program that modified my Tcl installation, and I now get an error message when I attempt to plot anything in matplotlib. Here is the error message: --- Traceback (most recent call last): File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module> File "C:\Python25\lib\lib-tk\Tkinter.py", line 3758, in _test root = Tk() File "C:\Python25\lib\lib-tk\Tkinter.py", line 1647, in __init__ self.tk = _tkinter.create(screenName, baseName, className, interactive, want objects, useTk, sync, use) _tkinter.TclError: Can't find a usable init.tcl in the following directories: {C:\Program Files\Tcl\lib\tcl8.3} {C:\Program Files\Tcl\lib \tcl8.3} {C:/Prog ram Files/Tcl/lib/tcl8.4} C:/Python25/lib/tcl8.4 C:/lib/tcl8.4 C:/ library This probably means that Tcl wasn't installed properly. --- I attempted a complete reinstall of python (hoping it would reinstall Tcl with correct file paths), but I get the same error. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, Sad news (for me, at least), in the upcoming version 7.0 of NetBeans there will be no Python plugin anymore. I have been using NetBeans for Python development for a while now and I was very happy with it. Hi, I need to create a python subprogress, like this: myProcess = subprocess.Popen([sys.executable, 'C:\myscript.py'], env=env, stdin=subprocess.PIPE, stdout=subprocess.PIPE) sys.executable was printed out as ''C:\\Python25\\python.exe'', how can I make this work in executable package through py2exe? I have to fix the following problems: -Source code shouldn't exposed in an executable program -Since python environment is not required when running an executable program, how to deal with the situation that "C:\\Python25\ \python.exe" is required as part of command? Redirecting STDOUT to a Python Variable

I'm writing an application that uses the Google Storage Python library. When an error occurs, the error is printed on the terminal. What I need to do is intercept that text into a variable so I can run a re.search() against it and find out what's going on. I thought doing a output_text = method_name(parameters) would stuff the output in the output_text variable but it doesn't. How can I accomplish this?
