daemon.DaemonContext and logging

I'm finally getting around to trying out the python-daemon module and have hit a wall. I'm trying to set up logging inside of the "with daemon.DaemonContext" block. Also, I left in the call to TimeoutPIDLockfile() as well, because the library's documentation is pretty sparse, and I want to know if I'm using it properly. Thanks in advance. ~Sean

i get : IOError: [Errno 9] Bad file descriptor when i have logging and using daemon.DaemonContext() i tried passing : fh = logging.handlers.TimedRotatingFileHandler(LOG_FILENAME, 'midnight', encoding='utf-8') with : context = daemon.DaemonContext() context.files_preserve=[fh] but no good what am i doing wrong?

According to docs the return value of prompt_user_passwd() method should be a tuple (user, password), but there is no user when authenticating with certificate. So how should I use this method? Hello, is it that my know-how to use Google is insufficient or... ...does really noone use Python for industrial control applications? At least I didn't manage to find any publicly available modules for such things as OPC/fieldbus communication etc... TIA, best regards, Wolfgang Keller

Python OPC -wrapper for data collection, anyone seen it ?

Has anybody seen OPC -wrapper done in python ? In industry OPC -servers are breaking thru. It is a microsoft based technoloqy to gather process information. Many Control System manufacturers have their own OPC -servers. There exists a visual basic wrapper -library so that one write VB - programs to enquire data from OPC -server.Wrapper done to python would be cool. Mark Hammond was not interested, but I am not giving up yet... -pekka-

Hello, I use an OPC server for connection to DC Drive. I would like to write a small OPC client. I have the dll OPCDAAuto.dll which contains all class and method but I wonder if its possible to instance in python the class that are in the dll ? Thanks for your help . Pierre

newbie - Does IDLE care about sitecustomize.py?

I have the following test script in the file customize.py # C:\Python24\Lib\site-packages\sitecustomize.py print "test text from sitecustomize" If start Python from command prompt I get C:\Python24>python test in sitecustomize Python 2.4.1 (#65, Mar 30 2005, 09:13:57) [MSC v.1310 32 bit (Intel)] on win32 Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information. which shows that sitecustomize.py works Now if I start IDLE I only get IDLE 1.1.1 >>> which shows that that IDLE doesn't care about sitecustomize.py Am I missing something or how do you customize if you are using IDLE?

PIL Image.fromarray( ... , mode="1" )

Does anyone know how to save two-tone images represented as numpy arrays? I handle grayscale images by converting to PIL Image objects (mode="L") and then use the PIL save method, but I cannot make this work with mode="1". I have tried both boolean arrays and uint8 arrays (mod 2). In both cases I get an image which is predominantly black, with thin white stripes (possibly for every 8 pixels). If, instead, multiply my (mod 2) image by 255, and then convert with mode="L", I get the expected random-noise-looking image. Does anyone have any ideas? What do I do wrong? What is the right/best way to save/convert two-tone images? I have not managed to find proper documentation for the Image.fromarray() method; the docstring seems to be empty )-: TIA :-- Hans Georg
