Why my ; continuator idea is better for debugging too.

Hello, In the past I wrote about pascal's ; mistake. ; should be used as a continuator. I just made a programming mistake which solidifies/merits my idea: The programming mistake was this: vBattlefieldLosingWarrior := // modified warrior and brain vSimulatorWinningWarrior := vBattlefieldBattle.Warrior[0]; Code should look like this: vBattlefieldLosingWarrior := TBattlefieldWarrior(vBattlefieldBattle.Warrior[2].Association); // modified warrior and brain vSimulatorWinningWarrior := vBattlefieldBattle.Warrior[0]; Fortunately there was a type mistmatch which hinted me at the programming mistake. The code is a bit messy above so let's make a simpler example to understand, the in my oppinion, dangerous programming mistake: A := B := C; The above statements "A :=" is valid in Delphi's current design. The danger is that B is assigned to A which is not what I wanted, the problem was missing code at A. So the danger is that some day, somebody will write B in such a way that it will accidently be assigned to A. By using ";" as a continuator instead of a "seperator" the code would look as follows: A := B := C Since there was no continuator specified, "future-Delphi" would have been able to detect this programming mistake. Since it won't try to attach B to A since there is no continuator symbol. I found it worth it to mention this so there ya go. I am always glad when Delphi finds bugs like these... fortunately this time I got lucky thanks to a type mismatch. Also the statement would have looked like A:=B:=C; which I think is not a valid statement in Delphi. I ll test that just to be sure. Yes fortunately Delphi does not allow such dangerous statements. However I think C does, I am pretty sure of it. Another nice example why C is dangerous ! ;) (Also my request for python is the ":" symbol removed from language and instead require statements to be on next line below if statement that be nice) (Currently the ":" is perceived by me as unnecessary and annoying, an easy typo to make just like forgetting a ";" however these are not necessary in python so why remove ";" but not ":" ? seems inconsistent, and ya know me... I don't like inconsistencies, it's frikking annoying.). Bye, Skybuck.

Old newbie needs help.

This week I wrote my first Python program, a script callable from Scribus, a DTP program. It ran! Now I want to spread my wings a little. How do I call a C language executable subprogram from Python and pass information back and forth? I am of the old school, meaning that object oriented programming is only slightly less obscure to me than Sanscrit or Navaho. So be gentle. Python 2.7.5 on Slackware 14.1 John Culleton.

IDLE has suddenly become FAWLTY - so should I be hitting it with a big stick, or what?

I've been using IDLE with Python 3.4.0 on Windows XP (SP3), since March this year, and since May I've been running IDLE almost continuously, using it scores of times every day, mostly to run the same script (for running a media player on BBC WMA streams, to bypass the dreaded iPlayer). No problems, until today. For a few days, I'd been frequently running a second instance of IDLE, to test a new version of the same script. Today, having closed this instance, I tried to open one again, but I briefly saw an error message about not being able to create a thread, or something like that. I'd seen similar messages before, but all that had ever been needed was to terminate a few other processes, and try again. Not this time, however. I closed the first IDLE instance as well - and since then, I haven't been able to get any instance of IDLE to run at all! I have tried the following, all without success: 1. Closed other processes, and retried (as just mentioned). 2. Logged off, logged into an admin account, and tried running IDLE there. Still nothing happened, and still nothing showed in Task Manager | Processes. 3. Installed 3.4.1 (over 3.4.0). It made no difference to the problem. (I also had to do a hard reboot of the system, after it had completely ground to a halt when I tried to reboot in the normal way.) 4. Disabled the router (for safety), then (temporarily) disabled the antivirus program. No joy. 5. Rebooted, instructed Windows Firewall to make an exception for pythonw.exe. Still no joy. 6. Downloaded Process Monitor, from <http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645>, installed it, ran it, and filtered to show all events having process name 'pythonw.exe', and any result other than 'SUCCESS'. There were hundreds of such events, including many stating 'buffer overflow'. (I'll go into an admin account, run Process Monitor again, and give details of the results, if it will help.) 7. Deleted .idlerc - this had no effect on the problem, so I restored it. 8. Created shortcut with target <I:\Python34\Lib\idlelib\idle.bat -n>, and double-clicked it, with no effect. 9. Ran the same command in a Windows command shell window. Still no result. I think that's everything I've tried, so far. I'm pretty exhausted now, so I thought I'd ask for help. Any ideas?

Select method of Range class failed

Hi all, I have developed python code which copy & paste data from one excel sheet to another excel sheet. I have compiled code both for 32 bit & 64 bit. It is working fine on 64 bit machine. But on 32 bit, it is giving below error. rng.Select() "Select method of Range class failed" Just to know you, I am continuously copying data from one excel sheet to another sheet.
