How to use multiple instances of the same COM object at the same time

Dear Usenet readers, Our company wants to implement about 40 biometric access control devices which have a proprietary DLL with a COM object in it. I've done some research about COM objects and how to use them. Now, I need to connect to every device separately and register for real time events. So, I need about 40 instances of the COM object simultaneously connected and registered to catch all events of all devices. I assumed I needed threading for this, and I have done a simple implementation. All I want to ask is: Does anybody see something that I could have done in a better way? I'm new to COM objects in Python! The program runs fine, it is very basic and I tested it with 3 devices connected at the same time. In production this will be 40! python CAD libraries?

Are there any python CAD libraries that can (1) build simple 3D primitives solids such as spheres, cylinders and so on (2) perform bool operations on 3D solids (3) better if it has some transformations such has scaling, sweeping, and lofting Please recommend some good ones for me? Thanks a lot!!

py2exe, program has stoped working!?

so i used py2exe and i have the build and the dist-folders. in the distfolder there is a Calculator.exe file. when i run it it just says "Calculator.exe has stopped working" in a popup but the program itself never shows up. wtf!? and when im distributing my program i have to include both catalogues right?

SWIG+Distutils - no harmony?

Getting courageous I try building 'example.pyd' from the SWIG 'Simple Example' using SWIG and the Distutils. Looks promising but doesn't succeed. I didn't modify 'example.c' and 'example.i'. Problems/questions: (1) Is 'setup.py' ok? I'm implementing a CPU that will run on an FPGA. I want to have a (dead) simple assembler that will generate the machine code for me. I want to use Python for that. Are there any libraries that can help me with the parsing of the assembly code?

Why there is no "setdefaultencoding" in sys module?

Hi, everyone I'm a new hand at python. I tried to set system default encoding by using "import sys; sys.setdefaultencoding('utf-f')", but I got error message: >>> sys.setdefaultencoding('utf-8') Traceback (most recent call last): File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module> AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'setdefaultencoding' Then I checked dir(sys), seems there was no function named "setdefaultencoding" in "sys" module. But in python's document, it said I should use sys.setdefaultencoding. So, my questions: why there is no setdefaultencoding in sys module? if I want to change system's default encoding, what should I do? Thanks in advance

Why "flat is better than nested"?

In "The Zen of Python", one of the "maxims" is "flat is better than nested"? Why? Can anyone give me a concrete example that illustrates this point? TIA! ~kj PS: My question should not be construed as a defense for "nested". I have no particular preference for either flat or nested; it all depends on the situation; I would have asked the same question if the maxim had been "nested is better than flat".
