I have installed Python 3.4.4 on XPSP3 and am trying to work my way through this tutorial. A Complete Tutorial on Ridge and Lasso Regression in Python http://www.analyticsvidhya.com/blog/2016/01/complete-tutorial-ridge-lasso-r… In Step 2 "Why Penalize the Magnitude of Coefficients?" we are shown this code: #Importing libraries. The same will be used throughout the article. import numpy as np import pandas as pd import random import matplotlib.pyplot as plt %matplotlib inline I get an error on the last line. I am running this code in Idle Python 3.4.4 Shell... So by analogy, there is no need for the compile() function in Python. I get it now! So the compile() function can't be useless. Either thousands of Python users are wrong, or I have not been careful in my thinking process. Converting py files to .exe and .dmg

Hi there, I have done a lot of looking around online to find out how to convert Python files to .exe and .dmg files, but I am confused. Could someone provide pointers/advice as to how I can turn a Python file into a Windows .exe and Mac .dmg file. Thanks for any help.

Pickle file and send via socket

Hello friends Does anyone know if it's possible to pickle and un-pickle a file across a network socket. i.e: First host pickles a file object and writes the pickled file object to a client socket. Second host reads the pickled file object from the server socket and un-pickles it. Can anyone provide a simple code example of the client and server sides? Thanks

Strange terminal behavior after quitting Tkinter application

Hi, I'm puzzled by some strange behavior when my Python/Tkinter application quits (on linux): the terminal from which I started Python is messed up. If start up python, then import the code below, then start the program with Application(), then click the Quit button, my terminal never prints anything again (such as commands I type). <code> import Tkinter import sys class Application(Tkinter.Tk): def __init__(self,**config): Tkinter.Tk.__init__(self,**config) Tkinter.Button(self,text="Quit",command=self.quit_application).pack() def quit_application(self): sys.exit() </code> Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? pip 20.2 release, plus changes coming in 20.3

On behalf of the Python Packaging Authority, I am pleased to announce that we have just released pip 20.2, a new version of pip. You can install it by running python -m pip install --upgrade pip. The highlights for this release are: - The beta of the next-generation dependency resolver is available - Faster installations from wheel files - Improved handling of wheels containing non-ASCII file contents - Faster `pip list` using parallelized network operations - Installed packages now contain metadata about whether they were directly requested by the user (PEP 376’s REQUESTED file) The new dependency resolver is *off by default* because it is *not yet ready for everyday use*. The new dependency resolver is significantly stricter and more consistent when it receives incompatible instructions, and reduces support for certain kinds of constraints files, so some workarounds and workflows may break. Please test it with the `--use-feature=2020-resolver` flag. Please see our guide on how to test and migrate, and how to report issues <https://pip.pypa.io/en/latest/user_guide/#changes-to-the-pip-dependency-res…>. We are preparing to change the default dependency resolution behavior and make the new resolver the default in pip 20.3 (in October 2020). Any ideas for a new language inspired to Python?

Let me first say that I don't know if my post is on topic with the mailing list. If so, please inform me. My idea seems to be very simple (so probably it's not simple at all): a language similar to Python, but statically compiled. (Yes, I know Cython, RPython, Julia, Rust...) Since I've not great skill in low-level programming, I'm trying first to define what I really want. My core ideas are: 1. Statically compiled (of course...). So if you write: var a = 1 the variable `a` is an integer and it's value can't be changed to anything that is not an integer 2. Use of smart pointers. Instead of having a refcount in every object, the language implementation will use a smart pointer as a sort of "proxy" to the "real" pointer. This could allow the language implementation to delete the object only when really necessary (lack of memory) and/or do JIT optimizations (move the object to a slower or a faster memory; compute and cache some object attributes, as hash; remove object duplicates...) 3. functional programming under-the-hood. Users can write also in imperative style, but in the language implementation only the functional style is really used. This way *maybe* it's more simple to write concurrent programs without a GIL. But I have a lot of doubts. The one that bothers me most is: compile to binary or to C? My idea at the beginning was to compile to C code without creating an AST. Virtually any system has its own C compiler. Maybe it *seems* more simple, but it's quite more difficult?
