I've JUST finished downloading the latest SDK for Carbon, which is the development environment for OS X. From just glancing at the docs, it would be very nice if an integrated Python were produced for OS X. MANY, MANY changes to the way things work and MANY advantages to doing things the new way. I'll know more tomorrow and will keep my mind's eye on what might be done with Python for the new OS. IMHO, Apple could do worse than adopt Python as the son-of-AppleScript scripting language! file times and time functions...

Hello all, I apologize in advance for this total novice question, just cannot figure out what I am doing wrong... Anyway, MacPython 1.5.2c1 (the latest I figure). The problem: A given file (${PYTHON}/BuildApplet) has following modification time (German style: 'dd.mm.yyyy, hh:mm:ss'): last modified: 12.4.1999, 14:31:43 os.stat, os.path.getmtime, os.xstat and their mac counterparts all say: >>>print time.ctime(filemtime) Thu Apr 13 14:31:43 1995 The difference of course is that of epoch 1.1.1900 vs. 1.1.1904. >>>time.ctime(0) 'Mon Jan 1 00:00:00 1900' >>> time.ctime(126144000.0) 'Fri Jan 1 00:00:00 1904' I grabbed through the Python and C sources, to no avail. BTW, trying to find out the epoch (according to the Python Library Reference, gmtime(0)), another funny thing (esp. third command!): >>> time.asctime(time.gmtime(0)) 'Thu Feb 7 04:28:16 2036' >>> time.asctime(time.gmtime(7200)) 'Mon Jan 1 00:00:00 1900' >>> time.asctime(time.gmtime(7199)) 'xxx xxx xx xx:xx:xx xxxx' >>> time.asctime(time.gmtime(7198)) 'Thu Feb 7 06:28:14 2036' So, what am I doing wrong??? If someone has a couple of spare hours to kill and needs a small project: with "ic" we have a module to interface to this database, so it shouldn't be much work to have the ConfigurePython script setup these mappings. PythonCGISlave.py

Well I unstuffed the files, set the Actions and Suffixes in Webstar and tried it out. When I attempt to access the files the Webserver says that it cannot run the ACGI script. Maybe a dumb question...but what is PythonCGISlave.rsrc for? its a resource file..but for what? I'm a newbie at all this so I apologize if I'm overlooking something simple. I've recently announced an open-source site, The Go Tools Project, at: http://gotools.sourceforge.net Although it's a very specific site, it does contain a how-to on setting up internet file mappings for Python: http://gotools.sourceforge.net/mac/python.html This really helps when downloading .py files & zip/tgz archives. Mac Python ODP directory

I've mentioned this before, but it was Christmas time and I didn't get any response. Now Spring Break is going on stager'dly, but hopefully some one will send in some links. Now, if that last part confused you, what I'm talking about is the Mac Python ODP directoy at <http://dmoz.org/Computers/Systems/Macintosh/Development/Scripting/Python/>. It currently has just four sites in it, because those are all the more I've been able to casually pick up from this list. I know that there are bound to be more Mac Python specific sites out there, so please go to the link and submit some links. This could be a really useful resource for all of us, but only if you help support it. Sure, maybe there are only four sites out there with Mac Python info on them, but I bet there are at least four more. If your not sure if your link is Mac specific enough, go ahead and submit it; if it's not I'll reject it. ;-) Again, this could be a useful resource if enough people submit links. Searching the list's archives for links is hard to do and turns up little (at least in my experiences), so your help would be apprecieated. Oh, and if this would be incentive, ODP data is mirrored all over the Internet, so your links will be sure to get lots of hits, but no where near Slashdot quanties for those of you who are a bit scared (hey, the links are in a Python category nested down six levels). Hi, Thanks for a PythonCGIServer.py program. That is a program I wanted for a while. I added a little enhancement to the program. It now can send back data longer than 32 KB to WebStar server. It uses a <SEND_PARTIAL> mechanism to send back data to the WWW server. I have tested it with WebStar 4.0(demo version) and it should work with WebStar 3.x. An attached tar.gzipped file includes: PythonCGISlave.py # Original PythonCGISlave.py PythonCGISlave.rsrc PythonCGIServer.py # Modified version supporting <SEND_PARTIAL>. PythonCGIServer.rsrc WebStarClass.py # Defines a WebStar class to send partial data WebSTAR_Suite.py # These files are created by gensuitemodule program.
