OSX Install and Test Report

Install went fine until I got a dialog warning me that ConfigurePythonCarbon would probably fail. It did. Turns out you have to be root to install this version, apparently. Once I logged out and came back in as root, everything went smoothly. Initial automatic tests ran as expected. socket.ssl on jaguar?

Hello, Does anyone know an easy (or even moderately difficult) way to add socket.ssl support to the python version installed by OS X 10.2? I've tried moving socket.py and socket.pyo from the Wx Macho install into my module search path, and even that doesn't work. If anybody can offer a pointer, I'd appreciate it. I'd figure if Apple was going to include python and openssl, they might as well go that extra step though... -Ross

Launching wxPython from 2.2.2

OK, I give up. I installed wxPython 2.3.3.1 after confirming Python 2.2.2 was working. I tried to run the demo after getting rid of all the non-2.2.2 Python stuff I could find. Double-clicking the demo.py file in wxPython originally said there was no file association. I created one with PythonInterpreter in 2.2.2. I get an error on launch that says "This is not a script. It is probably an auxiliary Python file such as an application template or a preference file." So I tried associating it with PythonIDE. 2.2.2 install experiences

Hello folks, Here is some install feedback. After downloading the full installer and rebooting into OS 9, running the installer presented no problems. i chose the carbon version and installed the developer tools. Although I've lurked on the list for quite a while, I'm pretty much a python newbie, so i started at the start. example0 would not work for me in the IDE, but it worked OK after saving as an applet, which makes sense as the first tutorial is about making applications. things meant to be in the example0 folder were not there (there is a warning that the documentation is old). After some other stuff and distraction i was back in OS X, and remembered that when dicking with 2.2.1 a while back there were some tests i could run from the interpreter. difference between active and full

The difference between and active and full installer is that the active installer requires a net connection during the install. The full installer will work offline. You will need the full installer when installing on a different machine than what you download from. (its a bummer when you download the active installer, without knowing that it is an active one, then try and install on some other machine) regards Richard Collins

Found my OSA problem !

Jack, I've been telling you over and over I had some AppleScript problems, events not returning. For example I use Make_Project of CodeWarrior. Metrowerks_Shell_Suite.py, and it never returned an error when the project was failing. The solution came for me around the aetools.unpackevent: try: dirobj = ae.AEGetParamDesc('----', '****') except AE.Error: pass else: parameters['----'] = unpack(dirobj, formodulename) del dirobj If I understand correctly, it is expected there is an event of type '----' to return an error. Well, maybe it used to, but not anymore for me on Jaguar. Instead, I get directly the 'errn' event coming back. So I changed the code this way : try: dirobj = ae.AEGetParamDesc('----', '****') except AE.Error: try: keyword, dirobj = ae.AEGetNthDesc(1, '****') except AE.Error: pass else: parameters[keyword] = unpack(dirobj, formodulename) else: parameters['----'] = unpack(dirobj, formodulename) del dirobj Note I don't like this code, may be I should use AECountItems. Anyway, that was the source of my problem. How come you don't experience that ??? I don't understand ! Why the returned event suddenly changed from '----' (and then 'errn' inside the AEList) to directly 'errn' ? Anyway, if it could make it for 2.2.2, I want to emphasize that without this, I don't have CodeWarrior.CodeWarrior functional (tested on CW 7.1, 7.2, 8.0, 8.1, 8.2, Py2.2.1, Py2.3a0, re-generating CodeWarrior.CodeWarrior or not).
