SciPy installer for Panther Python, anyone?

I'd like to quickly evaluate SciPy for a project, but I can't seem to find a binary distribution for 10.3's Python anywhere. Am I not looking hard enough? Tried to build from the source but the amount of dependencies for building it makes this not a viable option right now. Just

Sometime between now and WWDC, I'm planning on coming out with a major update for PyOXIDE <http://projects.gandreas.com/pyoxide>, and was wondering what sort of functionality others have been hoping for. Right now the list is largely bug fix related: Folding improvements Better tracking of breakpoints during editing A few crashes on initial saves/quits Update the PyOXIDE homepage and only a few new features: Out of process interactive interpreter support (which should allow interactive interpreters using a different version of python) "Non Blocking" debugger (hopefully - this is the "big ugly" since it requires some interesting threading support) So if you're looking for features/support, now's the time to ask... py2app question

i'm trying to build a tkinter app using py2app and think i'm almost there but have hit a bit of a bump. the app starts but then immediately closes if i start it either of the following two ways: a. clicking on the starsgui.app icon in finder b. open starsgui.app (from a shell) however, from a shell if i cd into: starsgui.app/Contents/MacOS and then ./starsgui.app the built app runs just fine. so my question is, am i neglecting something painfully obvious that explains why cases a and b don't quite work yet? this is all under python 2.4 and py2app 0.1.9 thanks, s. -- Serge Rey http://geography.sdsu.edu/People/Faculty/rey.html To recognize that nature has neither a preference for our species nor a bias against it takes only a little courage. -- James Randi

Package installation

While installing some Mac applications, I wondered if Python package installation could not be just as simple as application installation: copy a bundle to some folder (/Applications/PythonPackages or /Library/Python or whatever) and use it. For updating, throw away the old bundle and install the new one. For test-driving a new version, put it into a test directory that has priority on the search path. No installers, no passwords, and always a clear view of what is installed. Unless I have overlooked something, this should require no more than 1) A modified import procedure for MacPython 2) A new document bundle format for Python packages 3) Perhaps some clever code that caches bundle information for efficiency in imports. An added advantage of specific bundles would be the possibility to include binary modules for different Python versions in one bundle, transparent to the user, although this would only work in practice for a few agreed-upon Python versions that packager would be required to have. So now my question to the Mac veterans: does this sound realistic? And desirable? Konrad.

Python and Startup Items

I have created a Startup Item for macos x server 10.3.9 that invokes a shell script to start a python process. The startup item is called but the script fails. The app works if invoked from the terminal. The log simply says the script failed. The Startup Item script cd's to the appropriate directory, then ./AppLauncher to invoke the launch script. The launch script includes "/usr/bin/env python Launch.py". Both AppLauncher shell script and Launch.py have been thoroughly tested on Linux. The sys log in Server Admin tool says only that the Startup Item script failed. Where can I find debug or more detail about the failure? mounting an afp volume

Hi All, Python newbie here! I'd like to know the "correct" way to mount an afp volume. Currently I'm using makedirs to create the mount point and then using os.system() to call mount_afp. I've looked for a Carbon.File call that can do this, but couldn't find anything up-to-date. Suggestions? Thanks, Adhamh

py2applet and Python 2.4

I previously installed py2app in the standard way against Apple's system Python. py2applet calls #!/usr/bin/python and when I changed that to #!/usr/local/bin/python, it complained that py2app modules couldn't be found.
