My py2applet build_app.py script has the following line in line 911 pydir = 'python%s'%(info['version']) When I force a standalone build, the Frameworks directory has no Python.Framework The info.plist is setup correctly with the value : @executable_path/../Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/Python If I manually copy the framework to the bundle the bundle works. Build python app using wxpython on intel-leopard and deploy on powerpc-tiger?

Hi I have an OSX 10.5 running 64 bit leopard laptop. I have a python application that uses wxpython , reportlab and pyyaml (yaml) libraries. I am trying to build the app on Leopard and deploy it on Tiger using the following setup.py ( see below) However the *.app does not work and gives an error when the *.app is double clicked ( see attached png ). It understandeably complains about the Info.plist not having the correct PyRuntimeLocations array. What modifications do I have to make to the setup.py to get an app built on Leopard to run on Tiger ( both power-pc and intel). I am currently building against the System Python from /Library/Python/2.5/ and subversion version of py2applet. The app size is not limiting since its for an intranet distribution. Thanks to everyone for your help.. I finally have a truly Universal build with py2app 0.4.3. I have confirmed that it works on Intel and Power-PC , tiger , leopard and snow-leopard. Here is my protocol, I am repeating it because it took me a while to get all the bits in place I am building on Leopard -10.5.8 intel mac 1) I was using python.org python 2.6.3 2) wxpython binary build for 2.6 from wxpython.org 3) Installed all my dependent libraries for the new python 2.6.3 , reportlab , yaml and py2app and macholib from subversion (links here http://www.undefined.org/python/) 4 ) Used the verbose setup.py ( see below) 5) Ran python setup.py py2app 6) I then had to manually create a directory for the Framework inside the bundle.app/Contents/Frameworks directory mkdir Python.framework mkdir Python.framework/Versions mkdir Python.framework/Versions/2.6 And copy in the Framework build from my disk into the *.app bundle cp /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/Python Python.framework/Versions/2.6/ 7) The Resulting app bundle was 103 M uncompressed 8) I used DiskUtility to create a dmg file after I moved the *.app bundle into a new folder . Used the Disk utility command - create - disk image from folder . The compressed disk image was 33MB 9) Importantly the Disk Image ran on both mac cpu platforms and tiger , leopard and snow-leopard OSes I am sure this process can be fine-tuned. But thought I would send this along . Desktop shortcut for IDLE

Hi, I'm relatively new to the Mac. I have a Python 3.1.1. installation on my Macbook and I'd like to have a shortcut on my desktop starting IDLE with the -n switch, that is without subprocess Under Windows I'd rightclick on the desktop, create a new shortcut and then enter as the target: C:\Python31\pythonw C:\Python31\Lib\idlelib\idle.pyw -n Then I have to give it a name and it's ready. (Additionally I have the option to change the icon) Is there a similar and similarly simple way to do this with Mac OS X? (Leopard) I am able to start IDLE in this mode from a terminal, but thats rather cumbersome python3 /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.1/lib/python3.1/idlelib/idle.py -n So Id' like to automate it. (I observed, that the IDLE entry in the program folder is not a simple shortcut, so I couldn't find a way to edit an alias of it, in order to add the -n option.) 0.4.3 standalone plist issues

Standalone and plist issues: I am trying to build a standalone wxpython application I am using python 2.6.3 and py2app 0.4.3 Here is what I have tried 1)hari$ type python python is hashed (/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/bin/python) 2) When I run: /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/bin/python dhcp-129-64-45-53:src hari$ /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/bin/python Python 2.6.3 (r263:75184, Oct 2 2009, 07:56:03) [GCC 4.0.1 (Apple Inc. build 5493)] on darwin Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information. 3) I forced the non standalone build with semi_standalone:False in the setup.py. I now get a standalone build with python in the following location /GridZilla.app/Contents/MacOS/python 4) trying to run the app I get a Plist error : A Python runtime could be located. You may need to install a framework build of Python, or edit the PyRuntimeLocations array in this application's Info.plist file. 5) If I look at the plist value it is set to: @executable_path/../Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/Python This location does not exist : What Should I set it to to get the app to work? 6) I tried setting it to ../MacOS/python and the app failed to launch with the message: dhcp-129-64-45-53:dist hari$ open GridZilla.app LSOpenFromURLSpec() failed with error -10810 for the file /Users/hari/gzilla/src/dist/GridZilla.app. SO I guess I can force standalone builds with -s option . But now the Info.plist does not have the correct value. Having a problem to install PyObjC to Snow Leopard

Building 2.5 on SL

Hi all. I'm trying to build a "private" instance of Python 2.5.4 on Snow Leopard, and am running into a problem. To get started, I'm doing: Top:Python-2.5.4 shansen$ export CC=/usr/bin/gcc-4.0 Top:Python-2.5.4 shansen$ ./configure --enable-universalsdk --enable-framework=/Library/APT/Frameworks Basically, I need a framework install and such, but don't want to touch anything in the system and don't want any other program to touch this particular python. It needs to run on Tiger+, both intel and PPC architectures. The configuration appears to be correct to me, as the gcc commands seem to have all the arch's and the SDK right: /usr/bin/gcc-4.0 -mmacosx-version-min=10.4 -isysroot /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.4u.sdk -arch ppc -arch i386 -isysroot /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.4u.sdk -fno-strict-aliasing -Wno-long-double -no-cpp-precomp -mno-fused-madd -fno-common -dynamic -DNDEBUG -g -O3 -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -I. -IInclude -I./Include -DPy_BUILD_CORE -c ./Modules/posixmodule.c -o Modules/posixmodule.o Now the problem is, I get the attached error when compiling posixmodule.c. I was idly curious, so downloaded 2.6.3... and ran into the exact same problem. :/ Any ideas? Thanks in advance. --S

Gregor Here's one way to do it. My example is for python2.5 not python3.:: Create a shell script that will do the job for you. I've called mine "startidle". Make it executable: chmod +x startidle Test from Terminal that it works. Open AppleScript Editor application and create a new script called "startIdle.scpt" with the following text:: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- A script to call and run the shell script "startIdle" -- Both this script and the shell script should be in the "AppleScriptsFolder" within -- the "mypythonstuff" folder in the home folder. -- George Wright -- 8th Oct 2009 -- georgewr(a)bigpond.net.au set myIdle to POSIX path of file ((path to home folder as string) & ("mypythonstuff:" & "AppleScriptsFolder:" & "startidle")) set g to (do shell script myIdle) -- For discussion on calling shell scripts from AppleScript see my article -- http://www.labyrinth.net.au/~gwright/GetAgrepOnAppleScript.html ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Click the Run button in AppleScript Editor to test that works. Save as "startIdle.scpt" Lastly after you are satisfied that it all works OK save "startIdle" again as an application "startIdle.app" and drag that or an alias of it (Command + L ) to the desktop. Double click to start.
