Build Applet with 2.7.13 (64-bit) on 10.10.5 (and 10.6.x)

Hello, I have been using Build Applet quite extensively in the past. I now wanted to use them with 2.7.13, but if I actually build the Applet -- even for the simplest script -- the resulting Applet will not start. All I see is an entry in the system.log saying: "<date> <time> com.apple.xpc.launchd[1]: (logging2.257336[4974]) Service exited with abnormal code: 1". Running them from the command line or from within BBEdit works just fine. Is this expected behaviour? Or has Build Applet been deprecated? I searched the archives and via Google, but to no avail. Any tips or hints are very much appreciated, as we are using these scripts in a publishing workflow. Many thanks. Pascal

apple-Python and TLS 1.0

I have completely ignored this whole TLS 1.0 versus TLS 1.2 security debate until know, but just now the following post came in on python-announce, which seems to suggest that TLS 1.0 is really about to be phased out: https://mail.python.org/pipermail/python-announce-list/2017-January/011437.… I think Python 2.7 older that 2.7.13 (i.e. including the apple-shipped Pythons) don’t support TLS 1.2 by default, which would seem to suggest that things like pip will stop working as of this summer. py2app release delayed

Hi, I had hoped to release a new version of py2app today, but didn’t due to problems with macholib that resulted in broken application bundles. The good news is that I found the cause of that breakage and reverted the patch that caused it. I did fix a number of bugs on the tracker last week (the number of open issues decreased from 94 to 72), and implemented a useful new feature: support for “@loader_path” in shared libraries, which is used in wheels processed with delocate <https://github.com/matthew-brett/delocate/blob/master/delocate/delocating.py <https://github.com/matthew-brett/delocate/blob/master/delocate/delocating.py>> such as the wheels for Pillow. Because this is turning into a fairly large release I’d appreciate if people could test the code in the repository with their applications. To install first install altgraph-0.13, then install modulegraph, macholib and py2app from their bitbucket repositories (https://bitbucket.org/ronaldoussoren/modulegraph <https://bitbucket.org/ronaldoussoren/modulegraph>, https://bitbucket.org/ronaldoussoren/macholib <https://bitbucket.org/ronaldoussoren/macholib> and https://bitbucket.org/ronaldoussoren/py2app <https://bitbucket.org/ronaldoussoren/py2app>). There’s still a fairly large number of open issues for py2app, but those will have to wait for a later time (which hopefully be a lot sooner than the time it took me to get from the previous release to this point). Ah; thanks for checking. I should have tested under Tk 8.6, but was following the stock recommendation at python.org to use ActiveState's 8.5 (as most of the target audience will), and python.org's installers (which don't support Tk 8.6, but may soon?). Will upgrade and have a look. Hopefully, 8.6 will clear up a few other AS 8.5 oddities too - weirdly slow Text scrolls, windows losing focus on popups, and the like - though it largely works well enough to qualify as compelling, and better than the version shipped with the box. Need help with Python Library link error in OS X 10.11.6

Hello Team, I am setting up Appium for mobile test automation on new Mac with OS X 10.11.6 and as part of that I had to run following command. brew install --HEAD libimobiledevice and following error message was displayed at the end of this command run ************************************************************** checking consistency of all components of python development environment... no configure: error: Could not link test program to Python. Maybe the main Python library has been installed in some non-standard library path. If so, pass it to configure, via the LDFLAGS environment variable. Example: ./configure LDFLAGS="-L/usr/non-standard-path/python/lib" ============================================================================ ERROR! You probably have to install the development version of the Python package for your distribution. The exact name of this package varies among them. ============================================================================ ******************************************************************* I tried to run following command ./configure PYTHON_LDFLAGS="-lpython3.4m" as suggested however it failed as it couldn't find "configure" in current user's folder. I also searched in other file system to locate "configure" but couldn't find it. I need to revolve this Python lib link issue and need suggestions on how to do it. Things I need help on: 1. Where can I find "configure" to run the suggested LDFLAGS command. If it is not available in my Mac, what is the next step for me. 2. Do I need to install any Python builds to get rid of this error and be able to run brew install --HEAD libimobiledevice command successfully. Thank you Regards Manohar

Thank you all for the replies. I've tried using py2app with a framework python 3.5.2 from Python.org and can confirm it correctly bundles everything up in the generated app. I somehow was under the impression that I had to do something special about it, but it turns out it is much easier than I thought! Phantom Dock menu entries for tkinter dialogs on Mac

When using Tk on a Mac (Python 3.5, ActiveState Tk 8.5, Mac 10.11), why does the Python launcher retain Dock right-click menu entries for every Toplevel window that has been closed? This doesn't happen for common dialogs, but does for every custom dialog the closes with a widget.destroy(). It also happens for IDLE dialogs that are not withdrawn/redrawn, so it seems fairly pervasive. A simple demo of the problem is attached below: every "destroy" popup lingers on in the launcher's Dock menu after it's closed (whether by the red "X" or the widget.destroy() callback), and remains in the Dock menu until the main window is closed (by widget.quit() or otherwise). This happens whether the script is run by click or command line. Any ideas? The phantom Dock menu entries are useless (and even buggy) for modal dialogs that have been dismissed.
