Backslashes inside of variable

I am running Python 2.2 on Win2k. I have a program which writes a filename, with backslashes to a file, along with other stuff. I read the file in using readlines() and put each line into a variable. My problem is I want to use the filename, but I can't use it because of the backslashes. I know about doing open(r"d:\test\file.txt","w") or even open(`d:\test\file.txt`,"w"), but the filename is inside of a variable so when I do open(filename,'w'), I have problems. Can anyone help? sorting into lists

FW: Embedding Python

Hi Tutor list, I posted the below mail last week and haven't seen any replies on the topic so I am not sure if it got through or if the questions were out of the scope of this list. If it is out of scope, any suggestions to what list would be more appropriate. Further to the information provided, I compiled the code in "Release" mode and still obtained the same error. When I refer to error I mean the 'import site' failure message. I would appreciate any help on this. Visiting a URL

I've got a newbie question -- i'm looking at altering PikiePikie to notify weblogs.com when my weblog updates. I could get all involved in XML-RPC, but it's doable through a plain URL. pausing time and perform on exit

I actually have two questions--first do date I have never figured out how to pause time. The best of come up with is simple while loops that look for something to happen but its fair to say I'm clueless. timetosleep = 0 while timetosleep < 60: time.sleep(1) timetosleep += 1 Any ideas how to pause time? Also how would I tell the program to do something when the program is exited by having the window closed to the computer shut down (anything with the user manually typing 'quit' into the program)? I don't even know where to begin with this. Thank you agian, Kyle Babich

compute class name

Hello, I would like to create new object instances, but compute the class name. Simple example name = "ExampleClass" obj = name() obj should now be an instance of Class ExampleClass. Of course it doesn't work this way, but which? Thanks Ulrich

Hi everyone, I've been thinking of writing something to make it easier to submit and grab programs from Useless Python. Let me paint out a hypothetical utility: I'd like suggestions if this is a good idea or not? Make believe can be pretty powerful... *grin* Let's pretend that we've written some neat program that we'd like to share with others on Useless. Let's call this program "hello.py".
