I haven't been able to log in. I've tried multiple times, but if I enter my email or phone number it asks me to log in with my MileagePlus number. I do that and set up a password, then it takes me back to the first step again. No matter what I enter it asks me to create a password again. I've tried using the app as a guest, but it won't capture my passport. It says "too far" so I inch closer until it says "too close".

I'd give zero stars if I could. Without fail, the document scanner in this app has never worked for my passport or residency cards; no matter the lighting conditions or the 5 different phone cameras I've tried. Seriously, hot garbage whoever is building this feature. You might as well just not have it. Maybe it only works for American documents, but then the app should highlight it. Complete waste of time.

In general this app lets you do what you want. The check-in process is quite slow, but that might be due to United's back-end systems rather than the app. I get a repeated app crash trying to check one member of my party in, however. Android says the app contains a bug. Hopefully the 8–10 app crash reports you've just received will help you fix your software bugs, United dev team!
