
Change Account Information settings in Mail on Mac
Use Account Information settings in Mail to change general options for your email accounts.
To change these settings in the Mail app on your Mac, choose Mail > Settings, click Accounts, then click Account Information.

Enable this account | Make an account active or inactive. When you deselect the checkbox for an account (make it inactive), the account is disabled and taken offlineβits mailboxes and messages donβt appear in Mail. | ||||||||||
Status | Indicates if the account is online (a green dot) or offline (a red dot). | ||||||||||
Description | Enter a name for the account. This name appears in Mailβfor example, in the sidebar. | ||||||||||
Email Address | Choose the email address you want to use for sending messages from the account. For an Exchange account, itβs the primary email address for the account on the Exchange server. If you want to change the name thatβs shown in your messages, or create an email alias, click the Email Address pop-up menu, then choose Edit Email Addresses. If you already use aliases, theyβre listed in the Email Address pop-up menu. They also appear in the From pop-up menu when you write a new message. | ||||||||||
Download Attachments | Mail always downloads media attachments (such as image, PDF, video, or audio files) that you receive. To have Mail automatically download other types of attachments (such as spreadsheets or zipped files), click the pop-up menu, then choose an option: All: Mail always downloads these attachments. Recent: Mail downloads only attachments of this type received within the past 15 months. None: Mail doesnβt download any of these attachments. Mail downloads attachments you receive to a special folder in your home Library folder. | ||||||||||
