All News & Magazine apps must declare themselves in the Google Play Console and complete a self-declaration.
A news & magazine app is an app that:
- Declares itself as a "News" or โMagazineโ app in the Google Play Console, or
- Lists itself within the โNews and Magazineโ category on the Google Play store and describes itself as โnewsโ or โmagazineโ in its app title, icon, developer name, or description.

In addition, News & Magazine apps must:
- Provide the source of news & magazine articles including, but not limited to, the original publisher or author of each article.
- Update regularly its content (no static content).
- Provide users with clear and easy access to up-to-date contact information about the news & magazine app.
- Provide users with clear information about the publishing sources of third-party content (such as when provided by news & magazine aggregators apps).
- Provide users with an in-app content preview prior to purchase (if membership or subscription is required).
- Not have affiliate marketing or ad revenue as its primary purpose.
