Contact a website owner

To remove something from a website, you usually need to talk to the person who owns the website. Even if you found it on Google, Google doesn’t own the website.

Why talk to the website owner

Even if Google takes the website or picture off from our search result, the page is still there. That means people can still find it if they type the URL to the site, through social media sharing, or from other search engines.
The best thing to do is to talk to the website owner, because they can take the page down.
Tip: If a picture or info shows up when you search on Google, it’s on the Internet. It doesn’t mean Google agrees with it.

How to talk to a website owner

Here are some ways to talk to the person who owns a website:
  1. "Contact us" link: Look for a “Contact us” link or an email address for the website owner. It’s usually on the site’s homepage.
  2. Find contact information with Whois: You can use Google to find out who owns the website. Go to google.com and search for whois www.example.com. The email address to contact the website owner is often under "Registrant Email" or "Administrative Contact.”
  3. Talk to the website's hosting company: The Whois search result also tells you who hosts the website. If you can’t reach the website owner, try to talk to the company that hosts the site.
If the website owner has already changed the website like you asked, you can ask Google to take the old information off its search. To do so, send a webpage removal request.
