Nextiva Key Features
Nextivaβs business communications software offers a unique combination of customer service channels that alternative phone systems donβt have. I found the dashboard and routing tools user-friendly, with an intuitive drag-and-drop setup. The call audio and video meeting video quality are impressively clear as well.
Hereβs a more in-depth breakdown of Nextivaβs features:
Multichannel Dashboard
Nextivaβs agent portal combines all your customer-facing communication channels and team collaboration features into one inbox and display. Yet, the main dashboard feels surprisingly spacious and didnβt overwhelm me.
Each inbound contactβwhether it be an email, a customer mentioning your company on Yelp, or an incoming callβtriggers a ping notification with the ability to reply with one click. This simplicity makes it easy to serve customers through multiple mediums. With Nextiva, youβre no longer restricted to just phone service, and you donβt need to keep a separate tab open constantly to check email.

Nextivaβs dashboard lets you interact with customers through social media platforms.
Unique Digital Channels
When communicating with your customers through social media sites and review platforms, Nextiva is in a league of its own. If your company has a social media presence or monitors your reviews online, Nextiva integrates these directly into the dashboard alongside calling, texting and live chat. I have no coding experience but found it quick and easy to integrate these platforms since Nextivaβs setup process guides you through it click by click. Using them within the Nextiva interface feels intuitive as well.
- Social media: Integrate Instagram, X, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok and YouTube. You can interact with customers through posts and replies directly on these platforms. By comparison, with many alternatives, youβre fortunate if the integration even includes direct messaging functionalityβlet alone the option to post and reply.
- Review sites: You can monitor your companyβs mentions on sites such as Yelp and Google reviews, replying directly to customers on these sites through the Nextiva main dashboard. Replying to complaints and positive reviews shows customers that you care about their experience, helping you gain loyalty and improve public perception.
If one of your companyβs main priorities is growing or solidifying a social media presence, Nextiva is a no-brainer.

The Nextiva dashboard walks you step-by-step through integrating social media platforms.
Live Chat and Chatbots
Business phone system software usually does not include live chat or chatbots, also known as intelligent virtual agents. Typically, these capabilities are reserved for call center software, with an average starting cost of around $100 monthly per user. However, Nextiva includes live chat and chatbots on the Engage and Power Suite plans, which begin at $50 monthly per user.
The software lets you embed widgets into your website for live chat and chatbots. The embedding process requires a bit of code, but Nextiva still makes the setup easy: you can email the small chunk of code to your teamβs developer. From there, you can use Nextivaβs no-code drag-and-drop design tool to customize the widgetβs layout and conversation path.
Live chat on your website increases your odds of catching customers at the right timeβwhen theyβre on a productβs page or already thinking about your company.

With Nextiva, you can integrate live chat widgets and chatbots directly into your website.
Call Routing
Nextivaβs business phone system, which comes with the Core plan and all higher tiers, includes call routing tools such as IVR menus and call queues. These capabilities help you customize how you handle inbound calls, saving time for agents and enabling you to resolve customer issues faster.
IVR menus provide an automated, self-service menu that lets customers choose which department or agent they want to reach. I set up an IVR menu with Nextiva and appreciated the drag-and-drop design tool, which made it easy to record audio menus and link phone numbers.
Call queues group agents into departments and organize waiting calls on hold in the order they were called. Agents can view their queue activity at any time, tracking how long customers have been waiting.

What Sets Nextiva Apart?
Nextiva offers more contact center functionality than every other business phone system we tried. Most VoIP systems include call routing and queueing, and some unified communications platforms add team collaboration channels. Nextiva does all of this while also adding unique communication channels such as social media, review sites and email.
While contact centers usually include these channels, Nextiva is much cheaperβoffering multichannel contact center capabilities at the cost of a VoIP phone system. This is why we called Nextiva the βBest for Multichannel Customer Serviceβ among the VoIP software systems we ranked.

Starting at $25 monthly per user with a monthly subscription, Nextiva is slightly pricier than the average VoIP phone system. By comparison, alternatives such as OpenPhone, Grasshopper or Zoom Phone average around $10 less monthly per user. Further, Nextivaβs low-tier Digital plan only includes messaging channels, so youβll need to pay at least $36 monthly per user if you want a VoIP phone system.
However, Nextivaβs communication channel breadth is far more impressive than every other cloud phone system and rivals most contact center platforms. Even better, itβs under half the price of most contact center plans. Nextiva is a good value for companies that will use all its channelsβincluding social media, review sites and live chat.
Digital
Nextivaβs Digital plan lacks a phone system but includes several key digital channels: messaging apps such as WhatsApp, social media platforms such as Instagram and X and review sites such as Yelp and Google Reviews. The plan includes desktop and mobile apps with a unified inbox, enabling your agents to communicate with customers across digital channels.
Core
The Core plan adds a phone systemβgiving you a more well-rounded customer service platform. I am a big fan of Nextivaβs phone system due to how easy the interface is for setting up the IVR menu. The audio quality is excellent as well. At $36 monthly per user, itβs a good deal for those who want a phone system, social media and review sites.
Engage
The Engage plan adds live chat and chatbot functionality, which you can embed directly on your website for an impactful customer-facing touchpoint. At $50 monthly per user, this may be the cheapest multichannel contact center available.
This plan also adds call queueing, making it a good choice for large teams with multiple departments that handle a high volume of inbound calls.
Power Suite
Nextivaβs Power Suite plan adds AI capabilities, supervisor support tools and intelligent call routing. AI features such as real-time call transcription and post-call summaries help agents and supervisors. Supervisors benefit even further from the planβs unified dashboard, which gives visibility across the whole team.
This plan is worth the $75 monthly per user if your company has complex inbound call-routing needs and your supervisors struggle to maintain visibility across all agents. However, most small teams are likely better off saving $25 and going with the Engage plan.

Nextiva vs. Google Voice
Nextiva is more of a multichannel contact center, while Google Voice is a much more basic cloud phone system. Since Nextiva includes over a dozen communication channels, plus advanced AI features, itβs much costlier than Google Voice. Google Voice is one of the most cost-effective VoIP systems availableβand it offers good value with unlimited domestic calling and textingβso itβs a good fit for teams that want something simpler than Nextiva.
Nextiva vs. RingCentral
While Nextiva stands out with a wide variety of communication channels, RingCentral excels as a team collaboration platform. With only voice, SMS, team chat and video, RingCentral offers just a fraction of Nextivaβs channels. However, RingCentral offers more feature-rich video meetings, project management tools in the team chat window and AI call transcriptions on all plans.
For a slightly lower price than Nextiva, RingCentral is a better value for companies mainly focused on customer-facing voice and internal collaboration.

Nextiva vs. Dialpad
Along with RingCentral, Dialpad is more of a team collaboration platform and low-cost phone system than Nextiva. Starting at $27 monthly per user, Dialpad plans include VoIP calling, analytics, video meetings and team chat. With Nextiva, these features and channels begin at $36 per month. While Nextiva is better for multichannel customer service, Dialpad is a more cost-effective option for team collaboration and VoIP with AI and analytics.
Our Expert Opinion
Nextiva feels like a contact center more than a VoIP phone service. Itβs user-friendly and a good value, but the features and channels may be overwhelming and unnecessary for companies that just want a low-cost phone system.
Ease of Use
Considering its abundance of communication channels, Nextiva is relatively easy to use. I was able to integrate my social media accounts and review sites, and I never missed an inbound notification. I also found it intuitive to design call queues, IVR menus and even chatbots with the drag-and-drop design tool.
However, compared to alternatives such as Google Voice, Zoom Phone and Dialpad, Nextiva does feel a bit complicated. This is mostly because of all its communication channels, which make the dashboard feel more overwhelming than simpler VoIP alternatives.
Value
Nextiva is a good value for those who will take advantage of its social media, review site integrations and live chat. If you want to integrate these channels into your customer service strategy, youβll end up paying much more with any other provider.
However, for a simple business phone system, Nextiva is a poor value. In that case, youβre better off with an alternative such as Google Voice or OpenPhone.
Customer Service and Support
Nextiva offers 24/7 support for users on all plans by phone, chat and email. Compared to alternative VoIP phone systems, itβs some of the best customer service available. Iβve reached out to Nextiva by phone and live chat and connected with a helpful live human within a couple of minutes each time.
Reputation
Nextiva has tons of customer reviews on sites such as Trustpilot and G2 with above-average user ratings. Overall, this suggests strong popularity and a good reputation for Nextiva within the VoIP space. Customers say great things about Nextivaβs support staff and easy setup, though some mention occasional mishaps with unexplained randomly dropped calls.
