Bugs in IDLE environment (??)

Just a repost of the message, because I had no replies within a week. ------ I wrote a small script that uses input() to get the user input,get the values, make some calculation and return calculated value. The problem is that it works when the script is executed directly by the interpreter, but not in IDLE environment where after the user has entered some values the script doesn't return to the main loop. For example: print "Enter the name:" x = input("--> ") print "Enter the age:" y = input("--> ") doesn't continue after the first input(). My message concerning this must not have gotten through to the python-list. I responded via the egroups server, but the message didn't appear:( The release of python-1.5.1 for the PalmIII (or greater) will be announced within the next couple of weeks. I need to clean up the distribution and documentation first. The first release will probably be the final for 1.5.1, since the porting tools have improved and we are eager to get in sync with the latest stuff. With the lessons learned and code developed during the first port, the second should go much more quickly (the first took several part time months)... Echoing evaluation result in embeded Python?

When you run Python in console mode, you can see result string after evaluation. >>> 3 + 4 7 >>> dir <built-in function dir> But Embeded Python doesn't show its result string anymore.. You should specify 'print' command to see the result as in consol mode. >>> 3 + 4 >>> dir >>> print 3 + 4 7 >>> print dir <built-in function dir> Why this behavior happens? Are there any way to let Python echoing result automatically in embeded version? Thanks.

Python script monitoring another process

Hi all, I'm new to Python so this is probably a typical newbie question... Anyway, I'm trying to build a Python script which does the following: 1. starts a process (that's easy) 2. checks the output from the process (from its stdout) 3. when a certain token is found in the process' output the script sends a new token to the process' stdin So, how can I redirect the process' stdout so I can manipulate it in the Python script? And how can I redirect my scripts stdout to the process' stdin? Using sys.stdin doesn't seem to do the trick since it doesn't affect the environment for the running process... Any help would be appreciated, - magnus e.

CGI: keeping mySQL awake between hits?

I have CGI scripts that want to write to a database. If I have that every hit causes Python to wake up, and then mySQL to wake up, so that the script can write to the database (and then they both go back to sleep) then the response is very slow. I understand that I can put Python into Apache as a module, so that Python will always be awake. I want to also keep mySQL up (maybe a half-dozen clients). I believe that I can do this with Perl's Apache::DBI, but I'd much to prefer to go with Python. Can I? (I thought that this is a Python issue because Python needs to talk to the open connections -- isn't that why Apache::DBI is a Perl module? I looked a bit in the SIG database archives and did a few deja queries but I didn't see any discussion of this; sorry if I missed a recent one.)
