[Bug?] Python 2.0: memory leak in "pdb"?

When I tried to analyse a bad time complexity in 4XSLT, I noticed that the program required at least twice as much main memory if run under pdb than in a free run. This suggests there might be a severe memory leak in pdb. The debugger had to look for two breakpoints. Dieter

[Bug] Python2.0: Unicode/string.letters inconsistency

I have a problem with a Unicode/string.letters inconsistency: During "xslt" processing, a unicode string is passed to "urlpath.urlpath". This fails with the famous UnicodeError: ASCII decoding error: ordinal not in range(128) The reason: "string.letters" contains not only the ASCII letters but all "ISO-8859-1" letters. "string.letters" is used in "urlparse" to build "scheme_chars" against with the URL characters are compared. "scheme_chars" cannot be coerced in a Unicode string, as it contains non ASCII characters -> the exception. In my view, it is inconsistent to disallow default unicode encoding/decoding for non-ASCII characters but place non-ASCII characters in such a central place as "string.letters". Dieter

[OT] Apple IIe help please

Hi all. I apologize for the off topic-ness of the message and the cross-post. I have a friend who has a program she likes (written in BASIC) on an Apple IIe. I have a way to get into the code and list it on the screen. What I am looking for is someone who has had some experience using an Apple IIe who can tell me how I can get the listing to be redirected to the printer port. Also if it is possible to get a copy of the program file onto a disk for an IBM compatible comptuer (Windows or Linux) that would be great. Thanks in advance for all the gurus out there who can help me. -D

How to extend PythonWin auto-completion - ?

I am wonderin how it is possible in PythonWin to extedn the popup autocompletion so it is smarter for ultralazy lousy typists like me.. actually it is more than just that :-) When you create Class for example there are properties / class variables and methods. What I am hoping for is a way to have the popup completion list box include/append "()" when they are needed by default. This would make it much easier to distingiush between variables and methods But also it allow for faster interface with less typing: - scrollselect the class variable or methods - hit TAB and that's it Since the PythonWin shell already knows enought to prompt for arameters[ verynice], my question partly comes to to bundling this behavior into the popup listbox whenever one types"." AmI just too damn lazy or is this a good idea? ideal architecture for Python/IIS/ASP/COM?

We're going to be building a number of intranet/extranet server applications. Since the users will be spending a lot of their time in Microsoft client apps (Word, Outlook), it seems logical to develop the server side on a Microsoft platform: Win2K, Active Directory, Exchange, IIS, etc. to get the integrated security model and ease of bolting on various side services (like FTP, WebDAV, etc.). But, having lived through the maintenance lifecycle of ColdFusion and other semi-structured languages, I'd rather develop in Python than VB or anything else. I've gotten Python working with my IIS server for doing simple ASP stuff. But I'd like to plan on this stuff staying fairly manageable over time. So I'd like the bulk of my logic implemented in python modules rather than ASP pages. What's the best way to manage this? Have the browser ask for an ASP page, which calls Python methods? Call a .py file which then calls an ASP to deliver its output (not sure if this is even possible)? Something else? Is there any reason for me to turn my Python code into COM objects? Many apps I build will use SqlServer as a db. Should I use the ADO COM objects, mxODBC, or something else? I anticipate that, down the road, I'll be buying some larger packaged apps (like an industry-targeted accounting system) which exposes a COM API. Does the need to access this API (maybe to build a web interface when the original app uses a fat client) change the preferred architecture?
