wxPython TreeCtrl bug ?

Hi, I'm using the current development versions of wx* You can even use the demo code to test this. Obviously the wxTreeCtrl doesn't handle/emit/whatever all events anymore. EVT_TREE_SEL_CHANGED as well as EVT_TREE_SEL_CHANGING are processed correctly under Linux, however they don't show up under MSW. My MSW is a 98 with the common controls upgraded. Versions are identical (both Linux and MSW as of yesterday on wxwindows.org and wxpython.org) Anyone else having this problem under MSW ? UC

Global variable visibility

I have main.py which imports database.py, commands.py Global variable Db is initialized in main.py after importing database.py but before importing commands.py. Commands.py uses Db, but can't "see" it in main.py. Is there a way to make it so that commands.py picks up Db, or do I have to do as I did and create a Db = none at the commands.py global level and then pass in an initializer for the global? This variable is used so pervasivly that it doesn't make sense to pass it as an argument to every function. Is there a fully qualified name for a global in main that could be used from an import? A pointer to a general discussion of this issue would be appreciated too. I can think of other related questions to ask, for example: If I create Db in database.py, I can refer to it as database.Db in main - can I do the same thing in commands.py - refer to it as database.db, or would I have to import database.py into commands.py too? wxPanel question

Hi Pythons I am writing a small program to store pictures as thumbnailed albums using wxPython. For this I have a wxPanel containing a number of thumbnailed bitmaps(of type wxStaticBitmap). Is there a way I can save the contents of the entire panel to one image file. Does wxPanel support streaming ? If it does I guess I should be able to convert the stream to a wxImage. (Probably too much work for your project, unless someone has already done this.) 2) Write a Java applet that loads C Python and communicates with it via a Socket to support GUI windows. The Python code sends commands over the socket to the Java code telling it to open a window, draw a box, etc. The Java code sends UI events over the socket to the Python code. Having implemented a system like (2) for a Text mode implementation of AWT, I can say it would be doable in a month or two. The technique is amenable to the cummulative approach of Extreme Programming. Initially, support only a bare minimum of commands and events, stop when its complete enough for your application, open source it so others can add to it. The number of significantly-different bridge deals is thus C(52,13) times C(39,13) times C(26,13), 53644737765488792839237440000 vs 80658175170943878571660636856403766975289505440883277824000000000000 which is the number of permutations of the deck (52 factorial). But the _handiest_ way to deal a random deal, assuming for the sake of argument that you have a uniform real pseudorandom number generator u() [therefore you can just as easily generate U(N), uniform integer pseudorandom generators for any integer N] is still to deal the cards one by one just about as above: def random_deal(alist, U): for i in range(len(alist)-1): j = U(len(alist)-i) alist[i], alist[i+j] = alist[i+j], alist[i] Yes, there are faster ways (mostly because generating 51 pseudorandom numbers tends to be costly), but it's hard to beat this simplicity (always an important issue).
