help with warning formatting

I'm trying to get the hang of warnings. % cat t.py import warnings warnings.warn('foo') % python t.py t.py:2: UserWarning: foo warnings.warn('foo') Is there a way to just issue the warning message itself, or to at least suppress printing the line where the warning occurred (" warnings.warn('foo')" in the example)? See, I want to warn the user of my application that they're doing something risky or improper, so I just want to emit the 'foo', subject to the usual determination of whether the warning needs to be printed at all. For my purposes, the user doesn't need to know where the warning occurred, and they certainly don't need to see pieces of the call stack. The way it works now, it seems to be intended to warn the application programmer that they're doing something risky in the code (?). Thanks in advance for any advice.

Win32 drive mapping... aka "net use"

Is there an API using Win32 extensions to map a drive share? I have not found one yet and have tried searching "Win32 map drive". I am looking for the equivalent of: net use <share path> If not, is there an alternative other than making a call to system("net use <path>"). Blank ASP pages

My server is spitting out blank .asp pages which use python. If Python is not declared, the asp pages work fine. I just yesterday stepped up to Python 1.52 and the new win32all After the install, the blanks started appearing. All the paths look fine in registry. Any clues? Need help with C extensions

Hello all. I am attempting to wrap a C library so that I can use it in Python. I've used SWIG on the header for this file, and am able to import and run functions from the library. The problem is that the library makes use of pointers as arguments and as return values. For example, a C function: void GetValues(float* val1, float* val2) This (hypothetical) function takes pointers to floating-point values and modifies the data they point to. How do I represent this in Python? I don't think it's possible to get the address of a variable using Python, as Python has no concept of this. And once I get the value back, how do I examine its contents? A related question has to do with return values. For example, a function: float* GetFloat() In Python, I'd write: myFloat = myModule.GetFloat() SWIG sets the return value to be a string that has an address and a type embedded into it. Again, how do I get the floating-point value out of this? And what if the return value is a pointer to an array of floating-point values? Thanks! Carl

How your company think about python?

Hi all. I've posted a similiar message in comp.lang.java.advocacy, just for curious, but it seems that most people don't know about python... Would you tell me how your company (or your boss, colleagues) think about python? A possible next-generation mainstream? Or just another script? Or they even never heard it? Also, If your company wants to create a new software, will you recommand them to use python even if your boss/colleagues don't know about it? How you tell them the benefits from python? Why or why not?

Programs that intelligently use exception-handling mechanisms are better programs. Exception-handling is even more important to people.
