Hi I can't get python2.3.6 to work in leopard on an intel mac. I tried it first with macports afterwards I tried to compile it manually. When I use "./configure --disable-tk --disable-toolbox-glue --disable- framework" and add the line "#define HAVE_BROKEN_POSIX_SEMAPHORES 1" to pyconfig.h, I could start python23 without errors, but I doesn't work for everything. Here is the same error I get, when I try to use zope2.8. Leopard easy_install chokes on appscript egg

Any ideas on why it's selecting the .tar.gz version rather than the .egg? (Note: the egg was built using my own Python 2.5 installation, rather than the Apple one.) 2. I get the above traceback when easy_install tries to use the source- based appscript. This occurs with Leopard's own Python 2.5 and the Python 2.4 installation I keep around for testing purposes. Any guesses on what's going wrong? I'm not that familiar with setuptools and its error reporting leaves something to be desired, so I don't even know if the problem lies with it or appscript's setup.py script. Short version: OS 10.3 (pre 3.9) users are being officially and wrongly advised to install a 10.4-and-later package that breaks their stock Python Long version: The Python on the Mac download page (http://www.python.org/download/mac/) correctly recognizes the under-the-hood kinship of OSX 10.3.9 with 10.4, giving one upgrade link for those versions. It also seems to recognize the differences between them on the one hand and pre-10.3.9 versions of 10.3 on the other, when it covers the "Panther" case in a separate paragraph. It suggests a two step installation process beginning with TclTkAqua, followed by a different link to an updated Python (Universal-MacPython-2.4.3-2006-04-07.dmg) The PROBLEM seems to be that this is bad advice. I followed it with my 10.3.7 system and got a (classic, as it turned out) error: dyld: /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.4/Resources/Python.app/ Contents/MacOS/Python can't open library: /usr/lib/libstdc++.6.dylib (No such file or directory, errno = 2) Trace/BPT trap It seems libstdc++.6.dylib was never a part of the earlier OS releases, and the lack of it is apparently the classic manifestation of application version incompatibility across the surprisingly wide divide circa-10.4. In other words, the offered 2.4.3 release (not so much python itself, I guess, as a couple of Mac apps associated with this package) seems to have a "10.4 or later" requirement. Shouldn't the community act promptly to fix this problem (or at least stamp out this frustrating, time-wasting misinformation?) Tk 8.5 and leopard.

I've just seen that a new version of Tk has been released, and the screenshots suggest that it will blend in much better on the mac platoform. What is going to be the best way of installing the new Tk and a version of python that can use it, without upsetting apple's python install (which I'm using with Xcode...) PIL on Leopard

newbie Mac switcher trying to set up django on Intel MacBook Pro Tiger

Using MacPorts (installed yesterday and updated today), I installed: py25-psycopg2 @2.0.5.1_0 (active) which pulls in the following as dependencies: postgresql81 @8.1.10_0+darwin_8 (active) python25 @2.5.1_4+darwin_8 (active) then I installed: postgresql81-server @8.1.10_0 (active) subversion @1.4.5_0 (active) It looks like things should be working, but I am getting errors when I try to do `python manage.py runserver` as per directions on http://www.djangoproject.com/documentation/tutorial01/ The problem seems to be psycopg2. If someone could give me some advice, I would be most grateful. Problems with PythonLauncher on Leopard

I've noticed strange behavior with PythonLauncher on Leopard (I'm using the standard build of MacPython 2.5.1). The expected behavior with PythonLauncher is that when I double-click on a Python script, a Terminal window will launch and cd to the script's working directory, and then Python will run the script. What's happening now is that PythonLauncher opens a Terminal window, but it does not change the working directory to the script's directory, and Python never runs the script.
