
Add and download music on Mac
As soon as you subscribe to Apple Music, you can add songs, albums, playlists, and music videos from Apple Music to your music library, which is accessible from your Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV, or Android device whenever youβre signed in to Apple Music.
After you add music to your music library, you can download it to your computer or device to play at any time, even when youβre offline.
Note: Apple Music and Dolby Atmos arenβt available in all countries or regions. See the Apple Support article Availability of Apple Media Services.
Add music to your library
Go to the Music app
on your Mac.
Do any of the following to find music you want to add:
View recommendations tailored for you: Click Home in the sidebar, then find music you recently played, personal playlists created for you, genres you might like, and more.
See whatβs new in Apple Music: Click New in the sidebar, then find music by mood, new releases, charts, and more.
Search the Apple Music catalog: See Search for music.
To add music to your music library, do one of the following:
Move the pointer over an item, then click
.
Move the pointer over an item (such as a song or album), click
, then choose Add to Library.
Drag the item to the sidebar.
For example, when you drag a song, you can add it to the library or to a specific playlist.
Note: When you add an Apple Music playlist to your library, the songs in the playlist are updated whenever the owner updates them; however, the individual songs donβt appear in your list of songs.
If you donβt see these options, either youβre not signed in to your Apple Account, youβre not subscribed to Apple Music, or the Sync Library option isnβt selected in Music settings: choose Music > Settings, click General, make sure Sync Library is selected, then click OK.
Siri: Say something like: βAdd this song to my library.β Learn how to use Siri.
Download music to your computer
Go to the Music app
on your Mac.
Click any option below Library in the sidebar. For example, click Songs to display all the songs in your library.
To download music youβve added to your music library to your computer, move the pointer over an item, then do one of the following:

, then choose Download.
If the music youβre downloading is available in Dolby Atmos, the Dolby icon appears next to the item, and you can download it either in Dolby Atmos or in stereo. To download music in Dolby Atmos when available, choose Music > Settings, click General, then select the Download Dolby Atmos checkbox. See Listen to Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos.
Note: Music you download from Apple Music to your computer canβt be burned to a disc or transferred manually to a device, such as iPhone, iPad, or iPod. Music can only be downloaded to a device directly from Apple Music. See Intro to syncing your Mac and your devices.
