Have a question?
Ask our AI assistantPages and posts are the two main content types on your site. Use a page for content that stays in one place, such as your homepage, About, or Contact page. Use a post for dated entries that appear in reverse-chronological order, such as a blog article or news update.
For a full comparison, including how pages, posts, and templates work together, read Understand pages, posts, and templates.
WordPress.com has two editing surfaces. Choose the one that matches what you want to change:
- The Site Editor changes your site’s overall design — templates, header, footer, and menus. It applies across your whole site.
- The Block editor changes the content of one specific page or post — the text, images, and blocks on that page only.
The sections below show how to open each one.
To edit your website’s structure, navigate to Appearance → Editor in your dashboard. From here, you can edit:
- Menus, header, and footer.
- Site templates, which control the layout used by pages and posts.
- Patterns, which are reusable content you can add across multiple parts of your site.
Changes made here affect your site’s design and templates globally — not the content of individual pages or posts. To edit the text, images, or other content on a specific page, see Edit individual pages or Edit individual posts below.

If you don’t see Appearance → Editor, your theme does not support the Site Editor. Consider switching to a supported theme to access the latest editing features.
