SMARTPHONE NOTIFICATIONS

Weโ€™ve all benefitted from seeing a mid-ride text saying, โ€œYou got this!โ€ or โ€œKeep pushing.โ€ And sometimes you just need to see whatโ€™s rolling into your work inbox during an extended lunch ride. Thankfully you can customize your preferred notification type in each ride or bike profile on your Karoo, so you never miss an important notification (and can turn off the ones youโ€™d rather miss). The following notification types are available on your Karoo: 

  • Messages
  • Calls
  • Voice Mail
  • Other Apps

AUDIO ALERTS

Whether you want to hear every single alert or nothing at all, Karoo allows you to customize your audio experience. Audio alerts are available for the following: 

  • Turn By Turn:โ€ฏalerts for route navigation cues
  • Workouts:โ€ฏinterval alerts
  • Radar:โ€ฏvehicle approaching and โ€œclearโ€ alerts
  • Strava Live Segments:โ€ฏwhen a segment is approaching or completed
  • Phone:โ€ฏsmartphone notifications
  • E-Bike:โ€ฏwhen assist mode changes

Each bike or ride profile you create on your Karoo can have custom audio alert settings, so every ride will alert you only with what you want to hear.

Tech Tip: You can quickly toggle Audio Alertsโ€ฏONโ€ฏor OFFโ€ฏfrom the Control Center. Swipe your screen down, or press both top buttons, to open the Control Center and press the bell icon to manually switch sound on or off mid-ride. 

CLIMBER

Karoo is equipped to help you pace yourself up climbs with the CLIMBER feature. When CLIMBER is turned on, youโ€™ll see helpful climb details pop up on your screen like elevation profile, grade, and distance to the top. Each climb segment is color-coded to its average gradient: The brighter the color, the steeper the gradient. Swipe up on the CLIMBER pop-up to see complete climb details in full-screen. CLIMBER is completely configurable, from selecting the data fields you want to display to setting the kinds of climbs you would like Karoo to detect.

Tech Tip: Climbs must be more than 400 meters in length with a grade of 3% or more to be recognized by Karoo. You can select between "All Climbs", "Medium and Large Climbs," and "Large Climbsโ€ฏOnly" when deciding which level of climb you want to see pop up on your screen 

RADAR INTEGRATION

Karoo is compatible with most ANT+ rearview radar devices so you can monitor the traffic around you while riding. Simply pair your radar device to your Karoo as an ANT+ sensor to get started. Once connected, Karoo will work together with your radar device to alert you of approaching traffic while riding. You can mute and unmute the radar indicator to have control over on-screen visuals for detected vehicles.

Tech Tip: If your radar device has a built-in taillight, the device will pair as a single sensor. Youโ€™ll be able to configure your lightโ€™s default mode via your Karoo by clicking into the sensor and selecting โ€œAuto Controlโ€ to view any supported light modes.

Interested in running a third-party app on your Karoo? Visit our Extensions Library to view available apps, like Epic Ride Weather or myWindsock. You can sideload all kinds of apps, but keep in mind that using these requires more power from your Karoo and can impact your deviceโ€™s battery life.

Tech Tip: You can also sideload Android apps via the Hammerhead Companion app by using an APK file or a URL linked to an APK file. At this time, we have only verified that GitHub URLs work for sideloading.
