The U.S. Department of State is committed to making its Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) accessible to individuals with disabilities by meeting or exceeding the requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended (29 U.S.C. 794d). Section 508 requires agencies, during the procurement, development, maintenance, or use phases of ICT, to ensure that individuals with disabilities have access to and use of ICT information and data comparable to the access and use afforded to individuals without disabilities (i.e., βICT accessibilityβ), unless an undue burden would be imposed on the agency. Our ongoing accessibility efforts help ensure that our web content will meet or exceed the Section 508 standards and conform to the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, Level AA.
The Section 508 standards are the technical requirements and criteria used to measure ICT accessibility conformance within this law. Additional information on Section 508 can be found at the websites for the General Services Administrationβs Section508.gov website. The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 can be found at the W3C website.
If you would like to request a reasonable accommodation as a current employee or potential applicant, please visit our Reasonable Accommodation Policy page.
Use Of the Telecommunications Relay Service
Telecommunications Relay Services (TRS) allow persons who are deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, or have speech disabilities to communicate by telephone in a manner that is functionally equivalent to telephone services used by persons without such disabilities.

Where applicable, please include the web address or URL and the specific accessibility barrier(s) you are encountering.
If you would like to file a Section 508-related complaint, please use the online U.S. Department of State Discrimination Complaint Form or send an e-mail to the Office of Civil Rights at SOCR_Direct@state.gov explaining which and in what way ICT is inaccessible and how you would like to see the complaint resolved.
