using threads with python and winnt

hi everone, does anyone have expiriences with using threads and winnt ? I started working with the built-in module "thread" using the function "start_new_thread" , which needs two parameters : a function and a list of araguments to be passed to the function. but no matter what I do , i just get the error-message: type error: first arg must be callable I consulted the python manual but it didn't provide help to my problem. so, does anyone know the correct syntax of this function and are there generally any problems with using the whole library with windows nt ? any help appreciated, thx Charly

Gnuplot on two axis, with python-gnuplot

I'm trying to write a script to pass an csv file of stock prices and plot the results on a gnuplot graph, rather like yahoo finance does. The only problem with the attached script is it tries to use the first X axis for both price AND volume. Since the scale is vastly different this doesn't work. So I need to put the first dataset on the left y axis and the second on the right axis. The command in gnuplot is axes=x1y1 and axes=x1y2 but I can't figure out how to pass that information to the Gnuplot.Data instance? If anyone can get me back on track I'd appreciate it. thanks

Python compiler?

Hello good people! I am new to python and I understand that although it is a free-to-use language, it can be used to build commercial, propritary applications. Is this correct? Does it have a compiler for Linux and/or windows that can produce native executables? If not, do we have to distribute python application sources? Are there modules or libs available to bulid data entry/query applications for character terminals? Thanks in advance. Best wishes. Dubal.

Integer literal overflow error with -2147483648 but not with 0x80 000000 ?

Just wondering if there's a reason for this (doesn't cause a problem for me, just seems strange)... Hi I have sgml-files (created by Wordperfect) and want to convert them to html via a dom. When I write something like ü (e.g.) in the sgml-file, the parser stops at the '&' and leaves the program gentle. I found out that &uuml; works (!?) - I don't know that much about ?ml, but in my point of view this behavior is quite strange... I could convert the whole file before processing it, but I'm really interested in the 'official' way to handle this. thanks in advance - Jan

Is there any difference between: re.compile ('[a-zA-Z]*') and re.compile ('[a-z]*', re.I) other than notation, i.e. are the state machines that get built identical in either case?
