I'm trying to export Natural Earth Data (https://www.naturalearthdata.com/downloads/) to PNG so I can edit it further.

The problem is that whenever I export, the result is either:

low resolution (so I can’t zoom in nearly as much as I can inside QGIS), or when I increase the resolution, the map ends up as a small image in the center of a much larger canvas.

What I want is a full-extent export of the map at high resolution (similar to what I see in QGIS when I zoom in).

Does anyone know the correct way to do this?

The easiest way would be zooming the canvas to the whole extent of the map, then using Project -> Export as -> Image and choose a high DPI value.

PS: Make sure you use a decent projection so the countries are not too distorted. Maybe Equal Earth?

Thank you! It worked. I’ve been trying to find the highest-resolution world map I can edit for a long time, and I think this will do the job. What I especially like is that it also has separate river, sea, and land layers, but if anyone knows of even more detailed sources, I’d be glad to hear about them. Commented yesterday
